One of contestants on "The Chase" claims to be a "big man united fan' Bradley Walsh asks "Oh great! Do you get to many matches?" She replies "2 or 3 a season" and then the quiz questions start. Re: totally Sadly it covers lots of fans of all the top clubs. I have a mate up in the sticks outside harrogate, who along with his son are "big" Liverpool fans, though neither have never been to Anfield. He takes great pleasure in texting when we've lost, but is very quiet when they don't win. How can he feel it like I do? Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
well I suppose in recent years I have no room to talk as such when it comes to attending. But I still feel the right to be classed as a massive fan (as she said) . I first went in 1961 and went almost religiously week in week out, and many many away games too,. That continued till 1973 when I joined the RAF, that curbed my attendances a good deal, but in the years since then till now, 44 years I held a season ticket for over 20 of those years. I am now settled in South Wales near Cardiff as most of my relatives (including my Mum & Dad) are no longer here, but my wife has a quite huge family down here . Also my daughter and grandson are here too. So now I get there as often as is practical. But my heart breaks every time we go under. So I guess I am not a reyt fan really. But I cannot get my head around people not going and supporting their local side ...the lass on the Chase said she was from Bolton, I was not impressed when she announced she was a scum fan.
Re: well I suppose in recent years I have no room to talk as such Why would you say you're "not a reight fan"? There's a big difference in being a fan that's moved away, to being one that's no real links with a club from another part of the country, but likes them because they're successful or were in the past. One thing I've never understood is how fans of Man Utd born in Barnsley talk about Scouse *******s & how much they hate Liverpool for example. Surely the hatred comes from been only an hour away from each other & working with each other & having the banter at work, socially etc. How you can you talk about hating Scousers if you aren't a Manc etc. when you live in Barnsley & would get lost trying to find Old Trafford. It's like me deciding I'm a Cardiff fan, I wouldn't all of a sudden start hating Swansea fans because I've no connection to the area. Never understood it
You say that but I have a dislike for Liverpool myself, but not Everton. It stems from when I was a teenager, and they were winning everything. Myself and my mates were mostly Barnsley or Leeds fans, but the younger kids all seemed to have Liverpool kits. To be fair to some of them, they do support Barnsley nowadays, but it just goes to show how they get hooked by successful clubs on telly from a very early age - even more so now because of sky coverage. That's different to be fair. I get that, I've had the same dislike of Man Utd from growing up probably 10 years later when all the glory hunters were on that bandwagon rather than the Liverpool one.
Can I now safely use the term of being a HUGE Barnsley fan and not get labeled as a glory hunter as I normally only get to around 2 or 3 games a season. Normally at WEMBLEY. LOL
