Denis Healy isn't one of my budies. He was too right wing. I don't need one. I stand tall knowing that right is on my side.
His contract is up so what he earned before is totally irrelevant. Forget loyalty, nowt to do with football any more - the players made sure of that when they brought in Bosman. The question you have to ask yourself is very simple - How much would you pay a 33 year old squad player who's hardly going to feature? (Shouldn't be any higher for Hassle than any other 33-year old squad player) Also, you don't know what he was earning before so how can you say it is ridiculous - he could just as well have been over-paid this past couple of years? Who knows, he could have been on £500,000 pa in which case £150,000 pa for a squad player ain't a bad little earner. As you'll gather, I've absolutely no sympathy for footballers and their agents even though Hassle may well be the rare exception to the rule. I've no doubt Flicker's offered him what he thinks he's worth and in terms of cash, we'll never know what that is but I'm willing to bet it'll be quite a bit more than I'm on.
Re: It's like Is that aimed at me and my buddy ? I can't tell as I use linear mode. If so is it because of our sparkling wit and repartee , or more likely our 'gayness' ?
I think Dyson was having pop at me to be fair mate, not Bobby. He is just another one on a list that gets longer, but hey ho!!
In an 'Oscar Wilde, Stephen Fry' sort of way... later I'll meet you in the railway station. You can identify me. I'll be wearing a rose in my lapel and carrying a copy of the daily express... ok alright, make it the Daily Mirror, just for you !
Re: It's like shame I was rather hoping for the 'gayness'. Well it's been a while...and he's not bad if you're a 'chubby chaser'
Err...no. I was ready to tell them to stick it anyway! I didn't mean it to have a go at Hassell, because I think he is being poorly treated. Though let's say he was previously an ever-present when his last contract was awarded, and now he's only playing in a third of the games I could see the clubs viewpoint. That's a rather simplistic way of looking at it but you probably get the gist. I'd like to think it's just a negotiating starting point and they'll try to meet in the middle.
Anyone thought that flicker doesn't want him and steele, offered a **** contract to appease most of the fans thinking they'll turn them down and so the club still looks good that it's them that turned down the contracts?
I think both Steele and Hassell are good players at this level, and offer us experience which is vital. I felt similarly about Foster and Harewood, too. However, I have now decided it may be better if both departed for pastures new. Then we (not just Flicker, all of us) have a clean slate and can focus on the most important thing here - our club and it's future. If Steele and Hassell renew, then I feel the little gap between us supporters will only grow, and I think it's pointless. Because when we were together, united for that last few months it was incredible. So perhaps a clean break is needed?
