And with James Bree instead of Cam in the team we would have 7 more points like Luton? He's the answer is he?
Burnley spent a lot of money outside of their fan base income to get promoted. Yes, that's how they did it.
1950s were the boom time, but that aside, don't you think it's a bit defeatist to say we've never had big crowds so let's not bother trying? Why not think outside the box? Why not give the fans something to get excited about, rather than lowering their expectations?
Ok. If our financial situation means we can’t compete at this level, then fair enough. People then have to make their own judgement as to whether there’s any point supporting them with such limited scope for success. As I have suspected for a while, money has ruined the game and the dream is dead.
why would we be playing a full back in central midfield? Your argument is that we can’t possibly afford any player over the age of 13 with any experience. We have just shown that we could. Certainly Butterfield who wanted to come back and was turned away would have added quality to midfield. Having a couple of players not necessarily those 2 would help the young players develop. It’s not hard to understand.
Sheffield United just got promoted spending very little and living within their means signing players for onfield success rather than financial gain.
Pinnock and lindsay didnt refuse to play for Barnsley we could have kept them until Jan and then sold them. We didnt have to replace them player with no championship experience Moore shouldn't have been sold 4 days before the window closed unless we had a good replacement lined up. Potts didnt need to be sold with 2 years left in the middle of a promotion campaign either.
We have struggled because of the defence - Brentford who have one of the lowest wages in the League, can clearly pay our best defender - who has little Championship experience, enough money to sit on the bench, in London - a more expensive place to live, then we can offer to make him Captain and our top payer ever. Who are we getting in defence from the Championship on less money then a second string defender at Brentford? Butterfield would at least be demanding the same money - is he now any better then Dougall or Mowatt? No,
Of course. Very few of us want us chucking daft money at players but it would be nice if we assessed players based on their ability to influence events on the pitch rather than what we might flog em for in 3 years time. I genuinely don’t think that’s too much to ask.
We chose to sell our best defender to Brentford without a capable replacement to maximise return not for any sort of football reason. in terms of ability you may be correct regarding Butterfield in terms of experience and game management you are off the mark. We have no one to manage and organise.
you are missing the point. They sign players within their budget to create on field success. We do not. We sign players who may yield profit. We have ceased to be primarily a football club. They have not.
