I know it's an irrelevant reply but my season ticket at Oakwell equates to £8.70 per game. It saddens me beyond belief that I am totally priced out of away games regardless of whether it's Leeds, Sheff Weds or whoever. Perhaps the thinking at Weds is that the away support is irrelevant, the fewer the better, so bang a ridiculous price on it and they'll stay away. The problem is we need their overpriced support at Oakwell more than they need ours. We have 4 to 6 thousand spaces, they have about 2. Good luck with the protest but it needs to be highlighted at a national media level, radio and tv, not just at our own chitchat level, with all due respect.
When I said we can't in an earlier post, we obviously can. I won't be going. What Wednesday are charging is way above what I will pay for a game of football, unless it's a one off like a trip to Wembley. But boycotting it will have no impact. It has to be done as collective to resonate and we have to start with the prices at our club before we can criticise others.
I wouldn't give the mocked thing a second thought. If we take 2k we're tinpot... 5 thousand and it's our cup final. So **** em..
What would happen if we ever got to the prem and teams like arsenal and chelsea et al are charging us 50 60+ a ticket?? Do we boycott ALL away games in prem?? Owls are in dire financial straights, they have just had to sell their ground to themselves to get away with FFP this season. Its a simple choice back the lads and pay £40 or stop at home.
Yep. I'd agree. I find it frustrating that there are fan organisations in existence who are just not doing enough to organise resistance to pricing. A few effective boycotts would start to make the clubs take notice. The top clubs maybe don't need ticket revenue to turn a profit but some extremely negative publicity and a few half empty stadiums would soon start to damage their precious brand.
Me personally, ill be in North stand where i've bin 4 last 8/9 visits, watching the game and watching the Barnsley FAITHFUL, and listening to the Hatred that comes art of them little piggy snouts is awesome
For a lot of people, clubs are pricing fans out of the game. £40 For a mid table second tier club, I feel is excessive. Wasn't in Brussia Dortmund last season, who threw yellow tennis ball on the pitch (we are talking thousands) to object at a cup match having the tickets increased by £2 or £4? I think in Germany too, the fans tend to stick together and the owners (top clubs anyway) realise they actually don't need the revenue from the fans that much but do need the support. The fans are the lifeblood of any club, we are stakeholders of our team. Without fans ....there is NO football club. Please look after the fans with consideration.
This is from last year so take off the away support average (say 2,500 average?) and you have just over 20,000 pigs so plenty of seats to fill.
Yes they do stick together and it can work. Banners, tennis balls, not entering the stands until a set time, not having any atmosphere sometimes for full matches are all tactics used in the last few seasons in protest against Monday night matches for TV....and it's worked as from 20/21 season there won't be any but the protests will continue as that ruling is just for league 1 & 2 but not 3....solidarity is what works
All premier away tickets are currently capped at 30£ so the season after next after our glorious promotion we will be charged 30£ at ManU, Arsenal etc.
That post could have done with a bit of research. Even reading this thread would have helped. And it's not a simple choice, it's about the bigger picture, it's about making it more affordable for regular people to support the club they've followed for years.
I wouldn't pay £30 never mind £40 Working class people making already wealthy people even richer, players to owners.. F@cking ridiculous when you think about it... One for the left on here to ponder
The top price of 30 quid for away fans to sit in many of the best grounds in the country, to watch top flight football, is much better than nearly 40 quid for decaying second tier stadiums like Hillsborough and Elland Road.
No. Just a loyal supporter who does nearly every game and puts his money in whether we're good, bad or indifferent.
I live in Sheffield and won't be going at that price. I'd rather pay £20 a ticket and £20 travel to a London game just out of principle. Is this the same feeling for others? £40 a ticket and very little travel cost against £20/£25 ticket and £18/£22 travel. I know it is the same amount of money but I just won't pay £40 for a match ticket.
