Leavers had the opportunity to run for leader of the Tories when Cameron stood down. They all did their best to ruin their chances of the job (Leadsom). Since May took over, Fox, Davies, Raab, Johnson and others have had the opportunity to drive it forwards and did f**k all and f**ked off at the first opportunity while generally making things worse as soon as they opened their mouths.

The problem is, as soon as they write down what they want from Brexit, they find it goes against what the others want. Mays deal is about as good as you can get without destroying most manufacturing or farming in the UK (and losing about 25% of the economy from services). I don't recall most of those things being discussed except for someone to shout "Project Fear" when experts mentioned them. Many of the public statements at the time were either lies or just rubbish, and it is still happening now (Lisbon 2020/22, GATT24, etc).

You can't undo 40+ years of integration in two years, the only people that have the skills or knowledge to make it work either don't want to do it or were pushed out (Ivan Rodgers, etc) and the people that publicly shouted the loudest about wanting it are the ones least likely to ever achieve it. Mays red lines on immigration show her as a major-league authoritarian xenophobe.

You were sold a dud. You were sold something that will not work without massive, multi-generational damage to the UK economy and the younger generations are massively against it. Chances are the UK is blowing all this money, all the good will and our political reputation (and a fair few lives) on something that will be overturned within 10 years.

the referendum was to leave or stay,we voted leave. you may well be distraught that we are leaving but that was what the vote instructed.

i really cant be bothered with the rest of your post because given that you have skills that are few and far between globally and these skills have the chance of giving you work in germany (i think thats what you said a while back) i really do understand your frustration.

btw,i was not sold a dud as my mind was made up nearly thirty years ago

And you also had a manifesto from each party setting out exactly what they would implement if they gained power.

Call it humour or whatever but after Labours last tenure, things were getting out of control hence the note they left saying 'theres no money left'.. I guess the choice was either austerity or tax increases. Tories tend to cut things whereas Labour tend to tax more. But neither has got the balance right.

I get some of the arguments about investing in infrastructure for future benefit, although that is a bit of a dice roll. Not all infrastructure projects turn out as planned or indeed work as planned, too much of this could land the country in a very serious hole.

Not one party for me offers the right balance between keeping good service, sensible yet prospective spending and taxation levels right...

I'm all in favour of an extra 2p on basic rate of tax at all levels, not punishing the poorest or the rich, just everybody chipping in and rightly so, we all use public services. I'm also in favour of closing these stupid tax loopholes that allow massive corporations to avoid having to pay a legit amount of tax in this country. Both of those will raise some serious revenue, especially the income tax increase.

If people are paid the national living wage which is set to increase to £8.21 per hour in April, on a 35 hour week you are only looking at paying income tax on anything over £12.5k per year...on living wage your talking just short of £15k so only paying tax on £2.5k should be affordable.

I do think it is just about needing a new breed of politics looking for the right balance.. It doesn't exist yet though.

Agree with most of that except that Labour did not have control over the banking crisis. Also for clarity the tax on an income of £15,000 would be £500 but in addition the employees National Insurance of £764.16 which would give total deductions of £1,264.16.
