https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p08sw2w0 It is on BBC 1 tonight but already available on iPlayer. I have just watched it and it gave a good insight in to what went off with Steve Dale.
Yes, it's a bit of a shame a lot of fans aren't behind the phoenix club, as there is no chance of the original club being revived. I hope at some point they can get back to Gigg Lane, but is not going to be feasible until they can climb up to the National League at least. Steve Dale is a total piece of ****.
Saw it a couple of weeks ago. It’s a good watch. I’ve a friend who is a Bury fan. He was saying he will follow the new Phoenix club but only until the real original Bury starts up again. No matter if it has to be in league 8 or wherever. As he says the new club can never be the club he supports.
I have to kind of respect their views, but surely the stories of the likes of Wimbledon have to show that the club is about the fans, not the legal entity of the club, which in the case of Bury has been sold down the river by an owner that was not fit, proper or even a human being. To cling on & not support the efforts made to restart the club is sadly myopic.
They were given back to Wimbledon a few years ago. AFC Wimbledon are now recognised as the successors to Wimbledon FC along with all their history. Incidentally Barnsley FC (2002) are probably in a similar position except they didn't have to move grounds or start all over again in the lower leagues
I noticed that there's a lot of discord among the fan base as far as the phoenix club goes, but I haven't managed to find out why. Usually in these situations everyone unites around the new club.
As said above they gave it all back. As I understand the main issue now is the co tied use of "Dons"in MKs name. I seem to remember Wimbledon refusing to call them it when they met once?
I see what you are saying John but I’m afraid my pal Chris has a totally different view and would totally disagree. All he wants is rid of the owner, his team playing in blue with the club badge on the shirt and back at Gig Lane. Like he said to me even if it meant starting again in the lowest league. For him Bury FC is the only club he can really support. I’m with him on that because I know I could never passionately support any other Scottish club the way I support United.
But Merde not everyone can accept their club losing its identity and playing under a new name and losing their history. Had Barnsley when they went into admin been liquidated and come back as AFC Barnsley you’d be supporting a club who has never won the FA Cup. Look at Rangers. No matter what anyone says that club has no history and has won nothing of note.
I agree Ian, it would have been a bit weird and I'm very glad it didn't happen. But as I mentioned, usually in this type of situations you get all the fans pulling in the same direction. Something seems to have gone on at Bury. Is it because the original Bury FC technically still exists?
That possibly could be the reason but I honestly do not know. Not seen Chris for a few weeks. No pub so no meeting up to discuss the mega important things like football.
Of course and all trophies were won by a club called Rangers. They are now officially The Rangers who as we speak are the least successful team in Glasgow
The Rangers thing is all rather confusing. It's a new company but still the same Membership? Hence why even though they started from the bottom professional league they carried over the transfer ban. So is a club the comapny/persons that own it? Or the membership within the football league. New companies are often set up when ownership changes hands of course normally a smoother process. I seem to recall Covenry going through the liquidation process similar to Rangers. So are they a "new" club? It's a matter of perspective really. I see Rangers as the same club they always were and all the history of the club still attached. If Similar happened to Barnsley and we were still going down to Oakwell to watch guys in red shirts turning out for a team called Barnsley who's Membership had been transferred to a nee company, I would still feel the attachment to all that history. Now of course if it happened to Sheff Weds I would say the opposite just to wind the fans up!
My comments regarding The Rangers FC were as you probably knew were as a wind up but with a hint of truth. The Rangers are not Rangers anymore so all history and trophies must be deleted. But it is a good laugh to refer to them as the least successful team in Glasgow. Which is factually true.
