Was in Bristol today for a meeting and got a bit lost, asked a young lady if she knew where the street was where I needed to be. She said no but said she would look on her Mobile... in sec's it brought up a map and a route was outlined to my destination. So my question is what is the best apps around... and preferably freebies too....

    TIA

Agree with this. Google Maps orks brilliantly, clear instructions and also adjusts for traffic delays en route etc.

Probably as good DT, options for car, public transport, cycling or walking. I've used it on the odd occasion when away with work trying to find hotel from train stations etc.

Here WeGo is good, works offline, was developed from Nokia Maps.

As others have said DT the Google maps app is brilliant and does routes for cars, busses and walking. The downside is you need internet allowance with your phone because it doesn't work like a sat nav where it's all already stored on the device, it downloads the maps as you drive or walk.

I thought Google Maps did have offline maps now?

Here WeGo certainly does, make sure you download the map on your Wi-Fi at home before you go wherever you're going and no data charges.

My only comment on Google maps is that it needs an internet connection to access the maps, or at least it did the last time I used it. That means that it won't work if you have no signal, and it will also use up lots of your data if you have a signal.

I use Here We Go (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.here.app.maps&hl=en_GB) which will work anywhere even with no signal. You have to download the maps first, which takes a while, but you can do that at home on Wifi so it doesn't use up your data. Highly recommended.

Update: I believe Google maps now has an offline facility, but it can't be used for walking or cycling, and only a limited area can be downloaded. I've got the entire Here We Go maps of Western Europe on my phone, so I can go anywhere without needing an internet signal.

I've got nobody on ignore but you're right, I replied without reading all the other posts. Will I get banned?

It will work like a dream with it but as others have said you can now download the maps so you don't need to use your internet or 4g but it does work fine with it.
