It'll only be the second home match I've missed this season and it being JM's first it feels like a pain not to be able to make it. Going to be in Mamon's Green Teat of Retail too (Meadowhall) so won't be able to easily keep up to the scores.
I've made a balls up too. Booked a flight to Hamburg this evening, ages ago and forgot to check the fixtures. The 90 minute flight takes off at 7:45pm, so I won't be able to follow the match at all. The flight path sometimes takes us over Oakwell so if it's clear I'll try to get a photo of the ground with the lights on. It's the nearest I'll get to Oakwell this evening. ******.
Oh that is frustrating! I normally make it to Tuesday matches (just) if I dash off after my volunteering and head straight to Oakwell but I am with a different group tonight and (worse!) will be passing Oakwell twice on the train. Do post the picture if you get one - sounds ace!
I’m missing it as well but there are compensations when the reason is that I’m sunning myself in Denia on the northern Costa Blanca
We could all whinge about how bad it is when we can't get to a match and spend all evening refreshing our phones.
I’m not alone then. I often struggle to get to the Tuesday games with work, same tonight. For this reason I didn’t have a st for years, have again this year, with it being free for my son it works out cheaper if I get to at least half the games - of course I will by May have been to the majority. There aren’t and haven’t been that many Tuesday home league games - I made qpr, (plus Preston but Boxing Day doesnt really count!). Only missed Forest, Cardiff and tonight, and I was on holiday for Forest anyway. Bit gutted I’m missing JMs first game but can’t be helped. It’s the last home fixture I’ll miss this season I think.
I'm the opposite! For the past 3 and a bit years, I've been usually been in London on Tuesdays, with the odd exception. Tonight is the first Tuesday match since I jacked all that in to work on my software business full time so I'm really looking forward to a match under the floodlights I am now working from home all the time. Not sure how long I'll be ablt to hack this without going stir crazy mind. It seems like the only reason I leave the house is to take my daughter to nursery . I also keep losing track of the what day it is Might have to hire a desk in a Regus or something
Night matches are wonderfully atmospheric - but I do like them better in the summer where it's not totally Baltic by kick off.
Good point. I think my nostalgic night match memories had conveniently forgotten the fact its feckin freezing cold.
A few years ago (2004), an old schoolmate took me up for a flight in a Cesner that he part-owned. We flew from Gainsborough north over the Humber bridge then landed for lunch (can't remember where) then we flew West over Doncaster and my mum & dad's house in Bolton-on-Dearne and on to Barnsley. We were playing Hull that day in a League 1 game (lost 2-1). I could see the players and the ball, it was surreal.
Or moaning that iFollow has problems AGAIN.... Cant ever make Tuesday night home games which is a real shame as I love the evening games under lights but now just have to make do with the occasional away game down south - Reading this year was a particular lowlight. - Though I did see QPR beat the blunts on a night game earlier this season which was quite enjoyable.
