I like him but he was crap today.

I can accept him not having a good game but he seemed to throw the towel in a few times.

To me his game seems to be based on him dominating who is facing. If he can’t do this he just isn’t all that effective imo.

Just watched the goals on Quest. He was nowhere to be seen.

He was generally 40 yards back walking/jogging

It was a dreadful dreadful display

I can forgive a bad game, I can forgive not getting the rub of the green, it happens.

Not trying or caring. That's unforgivable to me.

I think he can't defend,he is slow, doesn't stop crosses ,doesn't close down, sometimes doesn't look interested, has given away 2 penalties through ineptitude. Yet he's a darling to some,I think he's the most overrated player at the club.
    Opinions eh.

Thought everyone was pretty average today. Dont think Cavare deserves singling out and don't think it looked like he was less enthusiastic than the majority. We were poor today, but credit must go to Charlton who defended, pressed and counter attacked very well.

    Totally agree with this.

Moncur gets lambasted. While Cavare Is immune.

Stick by what I said at the time, the worst full back display I've ever seen. That Stendel put brown in his place and gave Cavare a free role for 10-15 minutes suggests he might agree.

Had that performance come from wiseman or Kennedy I can't imagine the dogs abuse that would be dished out.

Cavare was doing what he was asked to do ,it's not his fault if his manager as given him a role to play that leaves him running down a blind alley with 2 defenders waiting for him

Which bizarre considering he gave up after 60 minutes.

It does seem bizarre considering the posts on here reflecting on his performance yesterday.

Cavare is OK going forward, a full backs priority is to defend. If Potts didnt spend half the game covering for him, he get forward more himself. We don't seem to be able to sort out full back positions

Looked better when he came into the middle for the latter parts.

Think we all got sussed today to be fair. Just weren't as good as Charlton on the day.

He beat several players and got a shot away near the end. Same can't be said for most of them.

How does that explain him taking on their defence and getting a shot away in the final minutes?

Didn't have a great game, but who did? They were all below par compared to the opposition.

Erm... Pinillos against Plymouth was pretty bad. Their right winger tore him a new one until he was subbed off

I've read on here we have the best two fullbacks in the division. Personally I think they're our two weakest positions and you could just select the fullbacks of any random team in the division and they'd be no worse than ours, in some cases much better. That's not to say Cavare doesn't have some qualities because he has, but these are all offset and more at the moment by his weaknesses. Pinillos is just way too slow. Push the ball round him and that's him done, it's either a foul to the opposition or they're away.

Neither are helped by the tactics though. We're playing wingbacks with no sweeper. Eaden and Barnard/Thompson had Matty Appleby sweeping up when they bombed forward. We now have just two central defenders, both left footed, so we're short on numbers at the back and Pinnock is on his weaker foot.

Hasn't mattered much this season, few teams have been brave enough to attack us. Luton and Charlton did, scored 4 goals between them and both had what looked to be a legitimate goal ruled out.

I'm sure other coaches will have noticed our weaknesses, but that doesn't necessarily mean they have the personnel to exploit them.

You do not need a sweeper when you play wingbacks. Dinosaur opinion. Move on from 1996.

I watched the Luton game from behind the goal and high up. The space between Pinnock and Lindsay is frightening, plus the back four line is usually out. DS says that the full backs provide the width, which is fine if you have a Defensive Midfielder or Sweeper. Perhaps that is the next phase of recruitment. It was evident in that game that a slight change by Luton would have brought success. But anyone scouting Barnsley that day, would see where the weakness lies, plus the endless square passing along the backline, invites a team to counter press. A slight change in shape to 4-1-3-2 or 4-2-3-1, might alleviate the current difficulty. I think other coaches have worked out how to stifle us. I think our best 4 midfielders this season have been Mowatt,Dougall,Potts and Bahre. These have enough about them to protect the defence and create for the forwards.
It's all opinion and not a fact, hopefully I won't be criticised too much.
