Modern day Chris Shuker for us in being short, a trier, but just not good enough for this level. The situation wasn't helped by the amount of aerial balls he was expected to win. We absolutely didn't play to his strengths and we made his job tougher as he was never going to beat Stoke at their own game.
Looks like a less talented version of Chris dagnall to me which is saying something as dagnall didn't have any talent.
Aside from full backs that don’t follow runners, centre halves that simply can’t defend or mark from set pieces, wingers who can’t beat a man or cross a ball with any accuracy and a couple of ‘number 10’s’ who never look like creating anything at all, you’re right central midfield is our biggest problem.
Charlie put a cross in by the by line through 3 defenders to just outside 6 yard box and there wasn`t a red shirt in sight to crash it in. Chappers fault or a n other. We can all pick players out from yesterday (mine was Doogs) but all in all they were all terrible.
Chaplin was on abart momentum before the game he actually stopped momentum in the second haif with his foul throw when we were having a spell of pressure.
Imho...like most of our summer recruitment, there's a player in there, not quite yet though and unfortunately if he does become half decent he will be sold the milli second theres an opportunty.
Gregory is a 31 year old experienced centre forward. And he’s 6’2”. Hardly small. Chaplin isn’t great but his strike partner yesterday seems to be immune from criticism. Don’t get me wrong, Cauley is amongst our best players but he was absolutely woeful yesterday.
I think Chaplin is one of the last players we should be singling out. It's purely down to tactics, if you launch an aimless 40 ball into him against a Ryan Shawcross type then you're not giving him what he needs, are you? He's a stendel type player, I could see where he would fit in then. IE bahre and Chaplin just behind either side of Woodrow and feeding him in aswell as chipping in with a few goals themselves. I can't blame a player who tries, and he's a tryer. I certainly can't blame a pkayer who tries and tries, gets 0 service from anywhere on the pitch and is playing in a side that does not suit his style.
Agree with that about Chaplin and our forward play in general tbh . We scored two goals against Bristol and Stoke and that should enable us to win at least one of those the fact we can’t keep them out is more worrying .
