One point (£10) profit for Orsen on Thursday. But what a day's racing! Some of the best riding performances (both in victory and defeat) I have seen in a single day's racing. And incredible human interest stories too. Pretty much everything Cheltenham is about.

Anyway, for Gold Cup Day my pin has landed on the following:

    Friday

1.30 Sir Erec Head and shoulders above these. Won at Listed level and placed in a Group 2 on the flat; unbeaten in his two runs over hurdles, the last day at Grade 1 level. The banker bet of the week, and good value if you can nick evens.

2.10 Crook’s Peak High class bumper horse and coming along promisingly over hurdles, winner of his last three with more to come.

2.50 Birchdale 2/2 over hurdles, the last day over this course at Grade 2 level.

3.30 Clan Des Obeaux King George winner at Christmas; equalled that form last time at Ascot and more improvement to come. The drying ground is no hindrance (although it will be to Native River, who won’t like it quick). Presenting Percy is the danger.

4.10 Stand Up And Fight/Ucello Conti The benefit of top quality amateur jockeys (in name only) is inestimable and Derek O’Connor and Jamie Codd ride these two very live chances.

4.50 Magic Saint/Not Another Muddle The two most promising horses in the race, and Magic Saint was rated as one of Paul Nicholls’ best chances of the week by the trainer.

5.30 Early Doors Is likely better class than a handicapper, and Joseph sneaked one in earlier in the week with Band Of Outlaws. More of the same here.

£10 level stakes; stakes split where more than one selection.

Sir Erec should be a given for the Skybet money back upto twenty quid offer they have had for the first race all week. Sadly it's not evens with them.

Thinking of having a punt on "Definitely Red " in the Gold Cup.
Some pundits seem to be saying that it's got a chance.
Last time I looked, it had shortened from 40/1 to 33/1.

Presenting Percy for the Gold Cup. It's a reliable horse to win money on and tomorrow will hopefully be more of the same.

Yeah the story about Andrew Gemmell is a real happy one - seems a proper good bloke.

1.30 - Sir Erec really should win, but I'm not in the business of taking short odds on juveniles. I'll try Pic Dorhy of Nicholls - not run in England yet but he seems to really like it.

2.10 - I fancied Whisky Sour for the Coral Cup and I think this is the wrong race for it. I'll be backing something each way at a big price, probably Countister and Western Ryder

2.40 - Commander of the Fleet just got the better of Rhinestone last time out. Yet Rhisentone is 12/1 with COFT is 6/1. Rhinestone is the value for me.

3.30 - Presenting Percy has real star quality, but hasn't jumped a fence in public for over a year. Elegant Escape ran well behind Frodon in January so hopefully he upholds the form.

4.10 - God knows. I'll be backing whatever Jamie Codd is riding.

4 50 - Minds Eye is my best bet of the day.

5.30 - Another pin job. Pym and Discordantly have felt the wrath of my pin.

    Good luck all.
