Remember to listen to the tax avoiders telling you to dig deep to top up the £90m currently sat in 'investment portfolios'...
I've seen lots of posts like this on social media tonight. Whilst no doubt there will be some of those doing just that, there will be plenty of celebrities on there who have done no such thing and quite a lot who will have personally given money or time to charitable causes. Even if it was presented soley by tax dodging people, whilst clearly it would help if they paid up, them helping to highlight the amazing work charities who may not get much publicity otherwise do, whilst it is hypocritical, is not a bad thing. Sure, post and spread stuff to encourage them to do the right thing, but making people not want to watch/think badly of such an important charity event probably isn't the best way to go about it. These posts may make people think that they aren't going to watch or donate to something the tax dodgers have put their name to. That doesn't make the tax dodgers pay up but it does mean the charities will get fewer donations.
I’m sure the tax avoider in chief, everyone’s favourite Tory crooner, Gary Barlow will be there with the crocodile tears.
99% of people on this forum would seek to reduce their tax liability if they were presented with a legitimate way of doing it. I genuinely can’t see many people being told that they could offset their tax liability only to turn around and say no thanks. There will be people on here chastising celebrities whilst simultaneously massaging reality with regards to their DWP/benefits claims, erroneous car insurance applications, non-declarations of legitimate income to HMRC, etc.
Deary me. That's up there with your the owner doesn't mean the owner comment. I've actually had a letter from the taxman. I owe him £206. That seems fair when I'm on PAYE.
The HMRC tax codes are basically an estimate as income can change over the course of the tax year, for example in relation to benefit in kind (travel, car insurance, car tax etc), so yes, there are reasons where you might owe extra despite PAYE, as I’ve found out two years on the bounce.
Who chucked you a biscuit? If you’re going to quote me at least do so accurately. Back in your box, Conan.
I think the difference is a lot of people on here aren't millionaires and every penny counts... So when you see a rich person doing it when they can afford to pay the taxes its plain and simple greed.
No thanks. There you go. Some of us actually care about schools and hospitals and the elderly. Disingenuous to link someone avoiding 50 quid from their car insurance with systematic and calculated theft from the public purse that goes to billions. Don’t want some hypocrite like Bono telling me to give money to charity when he avoids tax.
Well at least you didn't doubt my mental capacity for once. So I shall take that as a small step in the right direction. Thank you.,
We should set up a Trident in need of a royal family in need and give the money we give to them on kids then those who want the other two could donate. Or maybe the tories could not bribe the DUP with a billion quid and give that to kids.
When I was in business, my partner and I used to do this all the time. We were absolutely bombarded with myriads of tax saving schemes, both from our own accountants and from more specialised tax lawyers and accountants. We turned them all down flat. I remember saying to our accountant (and I'd better be careful as I think he posts on here!) that if everyone did it, the entire country would be bankrupt, so we all need to pay our fair share. The expression on his face was like that on a dog while you are trying to explain to it why it can't have a bite of your sandwich. Can't say any more because of the NDA............
Lets stick to the point not the anti tory diatribe. BBC promises every quid donated goes to funding various causes. Yet have two years worth of donations in the bank.
