Well, a takeover has to happen sooner or later so they'll have to be prepared.

My only response is to ask why on earth you would make that post at the present time. There's plenty of other stuff to discuss.

Mushy or garden. He won't have heard of marrow fat peas, so obviously he'll assume they taste like a kipper's naughty bits.

You should educate him - broaden his horizons a bit.

It's prudent to be cautious, ask questions and look at what the likely consequences are - for better or worse. Many on here cant have these guys take over quick enough, despite not knowing anything about them.

The road to hell is paved with gold.

Edit: It makes those idiots who ruined any chance of Cryne's son becoming involved even bigger muppets than they already were. IMO.

He once ate part of a broad bean by mistake, and had to spend 2 weeks in hospital.

If we want to move forward we need investment. The days of a local businessman running the local football club at our level are over. A deal like this is essential for the club.

Who did that and why do you think that would have been a better option?

Further confirmation that you hope this takeover falls through.

I think its prudent to wait and see what happens.

We've no idea of the new owners motives. They could herald a brave new world which sees Barnsley spend decades in the top flight and winning things now and then. It could bring us to the precipice to extinction. It could leave us with huge debts we struggle to recover from, or nothing could change at all, just a sign over the door.

What we do absolutely know is they don't have the same motives as the current owner for acquiring it. In business the common phrase is WIIFM. Whats in it for me? We won't know until we know.

But none of us can guess whether our future fortunes will be wonderful or terrible as yet.

If re-assurances are needed I am comforted by the fact that Billy Beane has been involved
in the Oakland franchise since 2002. That indicates he's not a fly by night speculator.
Why else would Messrs Lee and Conway deal him in , if his undoubted talents were not going to be put to the test
in an aim to attempt to get promotion to the Premiership. ? Also Mrs Cryne and son James
have also now been given a seat on the new look board. If anything other than good intentions are not on the agenda,
why would they ever entertain input from the present incumbents family.?
I personally feel we need to carry on as normal by giving the Club our support in anticipation of being eventually told of the Consortiums future plans for the Club.
For now, let's get down there early tomorrow and help celebrate our 130 th anniversary, give thanks to our past heroes, chant Patrick's name till we are hoarse, surf the flag (if we are in the East Stand ) and put our phone lights on in the 65 th minute.
We owe a lot to Patrick Cryne and for me , we now need to back his judgement by making welcome the new owners who with their resources, as a tribute can hopefully finish what Patrick started.!

Your posts have reassured me a bit mate with the research you've done into it, thanks. This is as good a takeover as I reckon we can get.

With due respect, this sort of statement sounds good (and you're not the only person saying it) but it means nothing. Buzzwords like "investment", "Move forward" and "essential for the club" make me die a bit inside.

I could name you a plenty of clubs, many no bigger than BFC who have "received investment to move the club forward" and have actually gone backwards. Don't get me wrong, it's quite possible to pump a lot of money into the club (by our standards) and be successful, but equally we could be no better off than we are now. But as I said on another thread I like the club being the underdog, I like the fact we currently have a model that's beating clubs investing tens if not hundreds of millions of pounds more than us. So I don't recognise your comment of the club 'going nowhere', it's almost as if the past 2 seasons or so never happened and we're still bottom of Division 1 at Christmas.

*If* investors are going to be chucking some reasonable sums of money at the club we're no longer different to many others. That whole ethos fundamentally dies. Now I understand that might be fine for some, especially if it brings 'success' (whatever that actually is) but for me personally it will be a hollow one. Of course it's quite true that I don't know the ins and outs of the deal and hope here's some long term provision for the security of the club if the "investors" decide they want to cash the club in and leave. I hope that when all this comes out I change my mind and its something I can get behind.

Edit: I dont think we should just unquestioningly accept any deal that changes 130 years of history.

Edit2: As my Dad says, "Above all else be true to thine own self"
