Can people please just calm down? It's a great example of being wound up over very little. Yes, it's quite clear that Winnall has left and I don't think many people can blame him if it's true that they offered £18k per week. The main grumble is that we apparently accepted £500k. People seem to be forgetting that on Tuesday/Wednesday we rejected Wednesday, Norwich and Brentford bids for him...meaning we clearly were upping the price. It's not in the interest of the club to let other clubs know what we got and the deal hasn't been officially announced - SO STOP FREAKING OUT. Secondly, Conor is in demand...stop acting surprised. So is Marley, Scowen, Bree and probably a few others. When players play well it attracts interest and even if these players were in long contracts they'd still be leaving. It's the way we sell the club to young, talented players - we can be that stepping stone but you need to prove yourself. We did offer the players new contracts in the summer but we were limited with how much we could offer so it was in the interests of those players to NOT sign new contracts...and they duly didn't. I don't remember many people begging to offer new contracts when we were bottom of league one - if we were going to do it that would have been the time to do it. Patrick Cryne has every right to pocket the transfer fees the clubs takes if he wants to...and who could blame him? He's not well and he's spent a fortune keeping us afloat. However, he isn't doing that - he's re-investing the money to find the next Winnall, Hourihane and Mawson. So chill out, wait until the club make a statement today - because they were rightly pre-occupied with the funeral of a Barnsley legend. I'm sure good news is just around the corner...but it won't be found on Twitter.
I don't think anyone's surprised that our players are in demand- don't know why you say that. The club not saying anything yesterday is also right and understandable considering Rimmos Funeral. I personally don't blame the players concerned. I understand the continuous policy of looking to produce replacements. It'sthe timing of having to make these replacements which is bewildering.
