Hes a good commo is Guy Mowbray, and yes he did do the Yorkshire version of Bbc's regionalised Late kick off show some years ago. I liked the Stones & Barnsley comment though.
It was an unbelievable thing to say. There were 10,000 fans who knew how good Stones was and the phenomenal potential that he had.
How dare Patrick Cryne have to miss a season worth of games through illness. So selfish. I agree with what you're saying, but Don Rowing was the man that made the recommendation, and he was at every game.
I'm going to be perfectly honest. Whilst playing for Barnsley I don't think he was THAT good. I knew he had potential to be excellent but I don't think he was amazing while he was with us and at the time I thought he had left a year too early for his development. I think it's safe to say I was a bit wrong
Don rowing wasnt the only person at every game. The cryne family were represented regularly and Patrick had a live video feed of every game streamed to his house. The decision wasn't Dons doing, he was a club employee who himself hinted that he thought the fee we got was too low.
Yeah can't believe we sold him it should of been John stones lining up today barnsley and England defender. I heard we forced him out and paid his taxi to goodison park. No ambition.
Fair enough. I must be misremembering. Not worth worrying about anyway, the club made a fortune off his sale in the end.
He's clearly developed since he left us but even at the time his potential was obvious. It was once in a generation potential, the best we've seen come through the ranks since Hirst.
I don't think he was either. But it wasn't how good he was, it was that he looked 10 years older than his age, he looked comfortable and experienced and that's so rare. I actually don't think we got a bad deal for him. The initial fee was paltry, but the sell on clause we had was fantastic. Did it earn us about 10 million in the end? I don't know of many, if any championship defenders who are sold for that. I also don't believe the 'we didn't know how good he was story' I think it's bunkum I think if Everton had sold stones to city by the time that question had been asked we would have heard how the intention all along was to make the money via the sell on clause as premier league deals are so much higher than championship to Premier league deals. I don't believe any of it but I do think the deal they struck was a good one even if the club didn't realise that when questioned at that meeting.
