Dear Conor, If you were to turn down the overtures of other championship clubs and sign a much improved contract with us, you could become a modern day legend at Oakwell today. Please do it! Really looking forward to giving you a fantastic welcome at Fulham tomorrow.... go on make our day! And, if in the fullness of time an opportunity to play for a decent Premier league side comes along, you can go with all our best wishes behind you.
Can I add: If you decide to go to another Promotion-Chasing Championship Club (no-names, no pack-drill), you are taking a gamble on that club winning promotion, whereas if you stay at Oakwell to the end of the Season you can negotiate a better deal with a club that is actually in the Premiership and leave a hero. If it's worth an increased wage for 4 months to take the risk then that's your decision but as a Football rather than Financial choice I know which I'd choose!
What did he cost? Just over 200 grand I believe. We don't have to sell him. The away support income from just 2 games (newcastle/leeds) gives us more income than that, notwithstanding the extra income generated over the course of this championship season (plus whatever the % we actually end up receiving from the Stones fee).
I'm like a stuck record but increased income from one off deals i.e. transfers is not there to subsidise increased wage budgets beyond what we can afford - it is there to allow the club to be self sufficient
If we are unable to make a profit after the sales, promotion, Wembley appearances, Sell on fees we have had this last 12 months we never will.
It is not about making a profit in this 12 months its about having cash reserves and hence sustainablity many years ahead when/if there is no-one to underwrite losses anymore...
You're flogging a dead horse pal. A lot on here seem to be of the instant gratification generation. What do we want? Success. When do we want it? Yesterday.
Spot on. We never will. Neither will most of the clubs outside the top few in the Premiership. It's how football finance works these days.
We don't have to sell anyone, but if they want to leave they leave. It's all about players unfortunately in these matters. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
It would be ridiculous to blow large parts of the money we have , whether we have certain players or not ,there is no guarantee of success , a few bad injuries and this time next year we could be struggling...fairweather fans deserting , we will need to use that reserve more then than we do now . Staying solvent and in business is a year on year issue , it doesn't end with permanent success at the end of a season .
Contracts mean nowt. Gareth Bale was an example to all current players the way he left Spurs. "Yer under contract to us Gareth. We don't want to sell you" "So what. I'm off" Cue refusing to train until he got his own way. What an example he set.
I have not said that transfer money should be used to pay players wages. The reference to the Stones money is in respect to affording the club a more general stability: that is, paying the wages of backroom and clerical staff, the 'tea lady' and the electric and rates etc, thus freeing championship revenue. Sometimes, depending on the situation I feel we should be thinking outside of the box...... it's only 5 months till the end of the season.
He will make himself a legend by not signing for the pigs, no matter what happens between now and the 1st of Feb. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Been with some sensible Wednesday fans today who reckon that Forestieri's new contract is approaching £30k a week! I'm afraid that we can't offer a third of that figure so whether it's them or any other similar sized club we just don't come into the picture regarding Conor's next contract. If he feel's predisposed to hang around for the rest of the season then that is a calculated risk on his part - we'll see.
