https://www.tvguide.co.uk/detail/3423788/16695569/brothers-in-football its fantastic.... and just shows what the powers that be, world wide, give a s h i t about the roots of football.
and I will tell you what...... thats the kind of club I was brought up on.... an honest and a totally community club.... maybe someone should give the present owners a look at this. This is the true spirit of football.
Thanks for the heads up DT, just watched it on catch up. Fantastic documentary and very true to my own football roots. Bit of a tear in the eye with the fantastic response from the Brazilian fans. Shame it wasnt better advertised, I only knew about it because of your post. It should be repeated on prime time TV before an England match
Just to add to that @Dragon Tyke , I'd go as far as to say that's one of the best documentaries I've ever seen. From their foundation to the many players that died in WWI to the pride in the Corinthians history shown by Brazilian fans and finally to the poignant visit to the war graves just left me spellbound. A real tonic after the daily dose of Brexit.
Just watched it on catch up. It does highlight to precarious financial position of most non-league clubs. However, this club has an extra special history. At the end the, players visited the graves of ex players who died on the Somme and are buried at Serre Road Cemetary number 2. I visited there in 2010 to visit the grave of my great uncle Thomas from Wombwell who is also buried there. He was killed in action on first July 1916. This Cemetary is close to Sheffield Park where there is a memorial to the Barnsley Pals regiments who went into action on that fateful day.
I played with a guy in Hong Kong who was an ex captain of the Corinthians. Their codes of conduct and sportsmanship were and still are extreme, hence the term 'Corinthian spirit'. They never argue with the ref, any Corinthian sent off was 'Sine Die' and could never play for them again. Wouldn't it be great if the Prem, Championship and EFL were to emulate such standards. You'd think that with such an attitude that they'd be a soft touch, but the guy I played with was hard as nails and yet hardly committed fouls. https://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/60/messages/959.html
