They have a point. Though the whole way things are ‘policed’ needs to be looked at. It’s not the 1980s costs could be reduced dramatically if football fans were treated with more respect and less like criminals.

Id suggest the majority of that cost was from the United, Wednesday, Millwall and Leeds games.
They don’t have to worry it will be around £100k this season.

I agree. The only other point I would make is that if the minority of idiots could behave at a game then this discussion would take on a different complexion. It's not as bad as it once was but there are still some dicks that go to games wanting a fight.

Everyone complains about the police but if there is an incident people expect the police to be there immediately on the scene & dealing with it , we cannot have it both ways

How about arranging a Free Tommy Robinson demo at Birdwell roundabout every match day. Keep the majority of our idiots plus most of the police busy and out of our hair.

Not everyone. I have a lot of respect for them and accept that they do an incredibly difficult job under immense scrutiny and sometimes without the support and backing of those who rely on them the most. Often when criticism is warranted it is due to decisions made by senior officers and not because of the rank and file officer. They, like any other area of society, have good and bad but in my experience the vast majority of them do a brilliant job.

Maybe if they didnt ship em in from durham and gmp for games like millwall where dibble to cockney ratio must have been 1:1 ot wouldnt be as extensive. The number they have at our games is ridiculous

They are right though. Clubs should pay the going rate so we can get back to local derbies being 3 of clock kick offs and not having a reduced capacity. It's horrible our biggest games being at dinnertime to save some money and seeing so much segregation netting in the north stand, with half the west stand unsold that could have been.

The problem is the mindless morons all clubs have. The overwhelming majority don't need policing at all. I would and never have gotten into a physical altercation over football. If I was attacked or ended up in the middle of something then I would want the police to be there. It's the thugs we should be condemning here not the police.

This is true. Thanks to the mindless Neanderthals of the seventies and eighties and their diminished but still present successors we can't really argue against a police presence. Thanks to these morons we all pay higher ticket prices. Every business passes it's costs on to its customers.
So to all hooligans past and present...thanks a f***ing lot! I've been over the years abused by overzealous police officers even though I was doing nothing wrong. I've paid higher ticket prices. I see my club unable to have any standing facilities and also unable to maximise revenue for big games due to parts of the ground being closed off.
Well done. I hope you enjoyed your "bit of naughtiness" at all our expense.

I want them there when we play Leeds, either of the deedars, or Miwwo.

But Brentford? Preston? Bolton? Etc. No need.

This. It’s the decisions of the senior officers and their ‘strategic planning’ that I would query. The vast majority of police officers are good at their jobs and approachable.

Football fans/clubs already pay for the police through taxes. The police impose themselves upon us and expect us to foot the bill. They create work and charge us for the privilege. The police will never voluntarily give up their overtime and their influence because that is how they work, like Humphrey Appleby, they covet power for the sake of being powerful.

I wonder how much it costs to Police The Trooping of the Colour and the likes in London? Who pays when they Police Fracking Protests and sites? Are the unnecessary mounted Police you see in tarn on match days counted as being football related? Football generates billions for this country in taxes.
