A short piece on Look North featuring Daniel Stendel. It is obvious that he is much happier training with the players than he is talking in front of a camera It's not that his English is not up to it - he has made amazing progress from when he was first at the club. It's just that I think he's a shy guy who doesn't seek the limelight, but is extremely good at his job - which is training and communicating with the players and getting the best out of them. I think he is a brilliant appointment - and don't forget he has had to leave his wife and kids in Germany to do this job - it comes with the territory I know, and, I am sure he is well paid but it's still a sacrifice. He just comes across as an all round good guy.
We need to play our part in making him and his family part of the wider Barnsley FC family. This is our USP, this is how we can compete with the 'bigger' clubs. Our club represents our community and our values. You reds!!
I've just watched the clip and he didn't seem fazed just wanted to get back to the players. Strikes me he's a bit of a workaholic which is no bad thing if you're a Barnsley fan.
This is something I’ve been wondering for a while, him living here without his family. It can’t be a long term plan to do that can it? Or maybe it is, a lad at works dad flys to germany every Sunday night, works there al week and cones home Friday evening- do we know if Daniel does a weekly commute back for a couple of days?
