He was a fans favourite last season, I live around Mansfield fans, and they loved him...

    I like Peterborough sneaking a 300k bid!!

I think Mansfield have leaked Peterborough"s bid so as to attract other clubs & thus increasing the sale price. I always thought we should have hung on to him , I believe he is a natural goal scorer & it was a mistake when we parted company , not dissimilar to the error we made with Johnathon Parkin

£300K seems a lot for a League 2 striker who averages a goal every 4 games.

I remember Mansfield spending a fair bit of coin under Evans banking on promotion . I wonder if the financials are starting to catch up with them .

I don't think Flitcroft has ever been his biggest fan, he more or less edged him out when he was at Bury and seems to be doing the same now at Mansfield.

I'd genuinely take the lad back, he would give his all for his home town club, he can find the net without doubt.

His career since leaving us shows we were right to get shut. I remember the night match away at Bury which was coldest match ever (-4 in car coming home) and when he came on as sub for them he got a brilliant hand from Barnsley fans, for someone that did so little with us. Then within a couple of minutes he did a blatant dive to try and win a pen that the ref didn't fall for, and all the love towards him had gone to be replaced by boos and wander chants.

In fairness to the lad , in the league last season he made 39 appearance & scored 14 goals which is a decent return , whilst £300 k is not a lot in todays market , even allowing for the division.

If we WERE to bring Rose back to Barnsley, it wouldn't surprise me to see tweets from a certain individual claim we'd paid £750,000 and were paying him £10,000 per week! Not only that, but some would take it as the gospel truth!:D

I did say his average return. In the season before he played 37 games and scored 9. In his one season in League 1, which he'd move up to if he signed for Peterborough, he scored 5. Just seems a lot to pay for someone who would definitely be a gamble at League 1 level.

Lower league striker at best... just a load of sentimental old pap. When some of our fans view is blurred simply because he is perceived as "one of our own! "

I would basically take everything McAnthony ever says with a massive pinch of salt. He loves baiting people for his own ends.

Didn’t Parkin leave because of disciplinary issues, allegedly drink driving? Rose was sold because of the then policy we had of bringing in ‘Journey men’ and the pathway to the first team for him being blocked. When I first saw Rose in the youth team/ development games I thought he was the next Kevin Phillips. Another young ‘Un that caught my eye back then was a John Stones, wonder what happened to him.

Regarding Parkin , I am not sure about is off field activities but my memory seems to think it was his namesake Steve Parkin who did not fancy him & flogged him for around £50 k but I could be having a senior moment & be totally wrong . I liked him because he was handy both at the back & up top & was fair old unit , something different to what we had . Regarding Rose , I agree with what you say , I saw him a number of times at academy level & thought he was a real prospect & to be honest I still think he could be effective at division one level .
