There's a fierce pride in anything relating to Yorkshire. Fortunately for us we have the name TYKES that is synonymous with Yorkshire - and we should exploit that to its fullest. Barnsley Football Club Tykes of Yorkshire
Why would barnsleyers want to come under governance from a nearby city that we've got a longstanding rivalry with... ?? There's no historical attachment for a "Sheffield region", never was one for "south yorkshire" either... not like there is for Yorkshire..
This is a far more serious subject than we give it credit for , hardly anyone voted because they hadn't received any information on the subject or basically couldn't be arsed reading up on it . The money is just sitting there in the treasury and until our councilors can get their stubborn heads together and do a bit of compromising that's where it will stay .
Trivial I know, but why did the Guardian article choose to illustrate the article with a rather bland side view of Barnsley Town Hall rather than the imposing and magnificent frontal view that highlights the importance of Barnsley and significant contributions that the town made to the national economy i.e. coal production in the industrial 1930s and beyond? Whilst a good article I cannot help but have the uneasy feeling that any positive or even neutral articles involving the town are given grudgingly by Southern based national media.
