    A few questions.
Best place around barnsley to get some from?
Any particular styles or colours that anyone recommends?
    And rough price to expect?

    Ta

B&M for white spa, 3 bags for a tenner. Theres a few choices but it was sparse at the beginning of lockdown - hopefully they've restocked.

The range as well, these places sell the same stuff as Wickes but half the price.

I always like the look of plum slate but then whenever I see it actually in a garden it always seems to look really dull.
Does the white spa look good in place? That's one that I worry would look a bit too commercial or building yardish.

Nature has a big chance. I'm only wanting to do a small area which would still have more manageable plants growing through it

I’m considering getting some bark for mine for the back, it looks quite nice when I’ve seen it before. That would be to have border plants growing through. We have white stones around the front, no idea if they have a special name but they look good and they stand alone with nothing growing through on 3 sides.

Top tip. If you're wanting bark contact a local tree surgeon, they often give it away free or at a really low price.

I did consider bark myself but want something a bit more vibrant (posh word for me is that) as the garden lacks any kind of colour at the moment

Thanks for that tip! I just edited my post above to make it clear that the bark would be for plants to grow through as it would look boring if it was just that.

You know that when you do it I'll be asking for border plant suggestions too right?

There’s some good (but expensive) ‘garden on a roll’ things you can buy that have been specially designed for borders and shady areas. They list the plants used so you can get a good idea from there what to buy and lay them out according to the picture and do a cheaper version yourself.

A good idea is go for a drive/walk around the poshest area near you and see what they’ve got that you like. I always go have a drive around Adel when I want inspiration.

I had visions that it would all end with garden gnomes and plastic grass *shudders*

Happy to chip in with ideas for you if you say what you like. Some really nice shrubs that attract bees and give scent with a few perennial superstars and a few pots for specialist plants with a liberal dose of spring bulbs for good measure.

I've got loads of bark, and red plums too. Both look great and they're so easy to maintain, hardly any problems with weeds.

I'll definitely be taking you up on that. I'm not quite ready to tackle it all just yet but trying to get some ideas of what will look good

I've been doing that and it frustrates me because I see things that look great in other people's gardens but can never visualise it in mine. Either that or I look and like something but I've no idea what it is

Yes, it's been down 4/5 years and kept its colour. We've also the white cornish cobbles down that look great. The dark parts on here are a different stone that l put down first because l didnt want it to feel like walking on a beach (white spa are fairly small)

Try Neil at N&D off Burton Road at Monk Bretton, he delivered some flint chippings for my mams Bungalow about 5 years ago and they still look great whenever I go past. Can’t remember price but much cheaper to get a tonne delivered loose and barrow it to where you want than pay for bags you then have to dispose of.

I got 10mm black limestone. Actually looks VERY light grey until it rains, when it looks at it's best. Accidentally got 20mm for the other side which is a bit bigger than we would have liked.

@JamDrop bark - looks great when first down but after one season of leaf-fall is very difficult to keep tidy - also, in our experience, is a magnet for cats to 5h1t in. They love digging it and making their mess.
