Looked like it to me .
His positioning was terrible and followed up by being too slow to react. It’s not good enough. Doesn’t matter who we play we have to accept we can’t rely on our keepers to save any shot out of the ordinary.
Not sure about that, but he should never be getting beat at his near post and it was a sloppy goal that he shouldn't have conceeded. The angle it was shot from, to get it to go in the side it did do, it was a disappointing goal to conceed. Jackson did his best to help him out.
Another 2 points cost us like already said should never be getting beat at his near post. Wouldn't like to total up the number of keeper errors this season and the points it has cost us.
The biggest keeper error was not getting a decent one. Same as the ridiculous amount of "number 10s" we have on the books and not one decent box to box midfielder. We have a unbalanced and low on quality squad the goalkeeping department is the same as the rest of the squad.
Agree about the goalkeeper situation and number 10s. And why on earth he was made vice captain and then captain I'll never know. Two of the worst keepers in the division.
I didn’t think of Davies having any blame at the game but seeing the replays, being beaten at the near post isn’t good enough.
However, can we totally pin it down to him dropping us 2 points? Being a keeper, mistakes are massively highlighted because 99 times out of 100 they end up with the opposition scoring. However, I would argue that Moore’s miss, Thiam’s miss, Isgrove’s lack of tracking back and the fact that Murphy was completely free in the box are also mistakes that have cost us. Can’t solely pin it down to one player.
We're one of the worst teams in the division, so why would we expect the goalkeeping department to be any further ahead than the rest of the squad? I agree with @RC_tyke that we're making mistakes in ALL areas of the pitch. It was the lack of sharp and clinical finishing that punished us most last night.
McBurnie aside, when was the last time we saw a Reds player who could shoot with venom? Most of our efforts look far too tame. And if you can't shoot from distance, why would you even try? Anybody sat in row Z should be getting minimum wage as a part-time ball boy.
I never said I did expect the goalkeepers to be ahead of the rest. I said that was a routine stop and getting beat at your near post is not good enough not the first time this season and I'm sure it won't be the last but we should have scored more then it wouldn't have mattered if Davies fucks up again.
Nah, he tried to move his head to the right to block it.
I think its very harsh to claim its a keeper error. Yes its a tight angle and yes he gets beaten at his near post but I don't think his positioning is wrong and its hit so hard that he has no chance of getting his hands up to block it. All he can do is try and get his head in the way which is what he does.
His kicking was much better yesterday.
Would definitely start him over Townsend.
I agree with that.
Lets be right the shot was aimed pretty much at his head from point plank range, it was inside the six yard box. It was one of those, that if he did save it people would have said it was a worldy.
The problem to that goal was allowing them to get down the sides. I know Jackson got him to go away from goal but his attempt to block it was poor.
The goal was coming though as they started to get on top.
No he didn’t duck
The ball was just outside the 6 yard box when hit Jackson slides in and if the shot is hit along the floor would get something on it. Davies has positioned his body with his knees bent in quite a low position the ball is hit over his head and as his body is positioned in that way is unable to react in time to stop it. The angle it was hit from the only place the ball could have gone was that near post.
You can't blame Davies for that. The defence allowed a one on one and Davies can't cover all the goal. He anticipated a low shot and their player was clever enough to put it above him at speed. Now if Moore had done the same from an easier angle at the other end.
Just watched the replay several times and I am astounded that anyone is blaming Davies for that. Someone even describes it as a "routine stop"!! ??
As Terry N said, if he had save that it would have been a 'worldy'. His positioning was OK but the shot was point blank, hit very hard and high . IF the ball had gone BETWEEN him and the near post then, fair enough, it would have been bad positioning, but it was it was a powerful shot at just above head height from close range with absolutely no time for Davies to react. I know he has justifiably taken some stick for past errors but it is out of order blaming him for that goal last night.
For me, the blame would lie completely with Yiadom. From the moment the ball is played over the top, his 'attempt' at tracking his runner is abysmal. If you look at the first frame, Isgrove is tracking their fullback and running as fast as he can, in stark contrast to Yiadom who casually lets his runner go past him, and makes NO attempt in getting close to him, probably assuming that one of the centre halves will come across and cover. Jackson does, and looks to have done enough, but he slides low and the striker fires high. Davies is perfectly positioned, but is decieved by the power and trajectory of the shot from such close quarters. If he saves that, it's a top, top drawer save.
Apologies if it looked like I was having a dig at you, I didn't mean it like that, I was generalising (and I did say "we" not "you").
Looks like a rocket of a shot to me that nearly takes his head clean off. I wouldn't blame Davies. Bet that their lad couldn't hit it that hard with that much accuracy again if he had another 100 goes at it.
And me ,beaten at near post is shocking stuff, all these saying ball hit high above him need to go to specsavers, barely half way up post ,it goes in
Last week you were stating reasons why Townsend was struggling , but as soon as Davies comes back you blame him for the goal , there is no way that goal was down to Davies , totally unfair
