I think that's the right decision. No doubt it will disappoint the Scousers who were baying for blood, but he would have been a scapegoat.
This was a retrial. Just said on radio, that Duckenfield can't be tried again. But others are still facing legal action
But the jury accepted the defence case that the 75-year-old was a target of blame who was unfairly singled out for prosecution. That's the bottom line.
The wrong verdict as far as I am concerned. The whole of the policing operation that day was not organised to the same standard as it was for the same fixture in 1988. Sheffield Wednesday were also guilty of negligence. The dangers at the Leppings Lane end were known but all the club was bothered about was maintaining the much prized 55k ground capacity, the largest at the time outside of Wembley I believe
I’d rather accept the verdict of the jury who heard all the evidence and came to a verdict of not guilty. I prefer to respect the legal procedure which is there to protect us all than arbitrary opinions and judgment of other people
The legal procedure in this case is a disgrace, evidence not heard, evidence redacted, 30 years of cover ups. 96 people were unlawfully killed under his command. You should seriously question the legal system you hold in High esteem
It's the second time a jury in a court of law has found him not guilty therefore that must be respected. Did he make mistakes on the day ?, yes , he's admitted that. Did he go to work that day with the intention to cause the unlawful death if 96?, of course he didn't. He's an old man now and to live with a conscience of what ifs and buts is a lifetime sentence in itself.
I hope he and South Yorkshire police hangs their head in shame every day and his time in his post doesn’t have bearing on his utter incompetence and negligence, he may not have gone to work with the intention of unlawfully killing 96 innocent people but once in work his actions as the commander most certainly contributed to the events and these people will never have to privilege of living their days to his age, due to his lies, incompetence and his actions whilst being in COMMAND.
I'm surprised at the verdict but as Plobby said you have to respect the judgement. The rule of law and all that. They heard all the evidence, we didn't. I have to say it's yet another shocking example of the dreadful nature of the British Justice system that this has taken 30 years to come to court. Ridiculous There is no hope for what i believe to be the appalling corruption of the Police and legal authorities in the disgrace that is Orgreave.
