    A Coalition of Cause.
We now have a lame duck Conservative Party propped up by 10 bigots, making decisions on our behalf, it's beyond anything I have witnessed in 67 years, Not even Thatcher would have stooped so low.

With a bit of luck a few Tory back-benchers will rebel and it will come tumbling down.

Does it go directly to the DUP or to the NI govt at Stormont ?

Now that N.I. has got extra money expect the Welsh and us Scots to expect the same.

I did see something on TV last week which suggested should N.I. get the 2b they asked for then under the Barnet formula Wales would ask for 4b and Scotland 8 or 9 b under the same agreement.

Well I'm now fully expecting big trouble on the streets of N.I. The last thing those people over there needed was more power to the lunatics of the DUP.. It's now into the marching season. Let the fighting commence.

And what about England why should we suffer austerity whilst investment is pumped into the regional countries - oh I know it was the stupid English that voted the Tories in ( and for Brexit) in the first place.

Anyway the Scots and Welsh wont get owt - they arent being bribed to prop up a weak and unstable party trying to govern

Got to agree with you Farnham. But refusal to give finance to Edinburgh and Cardiff will only strengthen the Nationalist causes in both countries. As if divisions within the UK were not deep enough this will only make things worse.
GE only around the corner by the looks of things as this Govt continues to blunder from one mess to another.

Bang on. Nicola is making a speech in London on Wednesday.
She's nailed on to mention the bias being shown towards Northern Ireland.
If it was an urgent priority to invest in infrastructure improvements why hasn't it been done before.?

Watched the signing Tory/DUP signing ceremony on the Daily Politics earlier.
They all looked pleased to get the deal done......NOT.?

Thinking about it the £1 billion plus another £500 k later to seal the deal needn't have been done.
The DUP hate SINN FEIN. There is no way the DUP would vote against the Government to let
Jeremy Corbyn who it is alleged has sympathy for SF into Downing Street by the back door.

Incidentally Daily Mail headline today is "Fury as Labour calls Tower fire Murder". A reporter on Question Time last week
who worked for the Mail said they didn't tell lies or bend the truth.? ( gales of laughter from the audience.)

I'm afraid they do twist the truth. The word "Murder" was used by the Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell from the stage
at Glastonbury and overnight he's been condemned by a lot of Labour supporters who are demanding his statement is retracted.

What an odious biased rag that paper is. It's almost as bad as the Sun and that's saying something.?

My understanding of the Barnett formula is that £2 to NI adds up to £70 when you factor in England, Scotland and Wales.

WRT Labour bods calling on McDonnell to retract the murder phrase - I imagine they're worried that could apply to the actions (inactions ?) of the Labour Govt 1997-2010 as much as any Tory one where social housing is concerned.

Well worth it if it keeps Corbyn at bay and keeps his acalyte McDonnell, who doesn't know the difference between Manslaughter and Murder out of Government. Hopefully the Labour Party will regroup and join the real world.

Murder possibly was a bit strong a word to use. Perhaps corporate manslaughter would have been more apt as I'm sure no one went out to look to kill anyone. But people must be taken to task over that fire where serious safety issues were ignored.

Nothing like being held to ransom by ****-tier countries. I'd love to have English independence at some point.

    Nicola's response today.
In concluding this grubby, shameless deal the Tories have shown that they will stop at nothing to hold on to power – even sacrificing the very basic principles of devolution.
By ignoring the Barnett formula, Scotland will be missing out on an estimated £2.9 billion in funding for our public services – that is the price to Scottish taxpayers for the Tories to stay in power.
This breaks the very principles that underpin devolution and the funding settlement the Tories pledged to protect
The Tories’ excuses are simply empty spin, and expose that they once again plan on short-changing Scotland.
This is not a city deal – it is simply an attempt to pull the wool over people’s eyes.
This is the worst kind of pork barrel politics, which has shredded the last vestiges of credibility of this weakened Prime Minister.
I know that these concerns are shared by the First Minister of Wales, and I will be seeking urgent discussions in the days ahead to stand up for our respective nations for basic fairness.
This deal also raises very serious questions for the Scottish Secretary. At the weekend, David Mundell was indicating that he would not allow a situation where Northern Ireland received extra funding while Scotland did not.
But instead of fighting Scotland’s corner, David Mundell appears to have just surrendered.
However, he and Ruth Davidson should now live up to their boasts by preventing this deal to go through – they should order Scottish Tory MPs to use their votes to put a halt to it.
This total disregard of the principles of devolution will haunt the Tories for years to come – in government and at Westminster the SNP will continue to pursue the UK Government for a fair deal for Scotland. - Nicola

Murder is perhaps strong. I'm not sure corporate manslaughter is strong enough. I'd probably agree. The Blair Govt and the Tories since 2010 have treated poor people viciously and without regard for safety as always they will snake out of responsibility and leave private companies to not be punished very harshly for corporate manslaughter. The political classes look out for themselves.
