Great result today, and I'm lucky that I'm now relaxing in a lovely cottage in Filey with my family, Mum, my sister, brother in law and niece having driven over after the match. A few days away in our special place, and that of my Dad. It'll be his first anniversary on Easter Sunday. A year ago today (to the day) I had my last proper conversation with him in Barnsley Hospice, when we returned to him the following day he was well down the road of his final journey. I can remember it as if it was yesterday. We talked about his childhood football heroes for Barnsley - George Robledo, Arthur Kaye, and his hero Johnny Kelly. And mine - Ronnie Glavin , Mick McCarthy, Ian Banks, Trevor Aylott. And we both smiled, it's a trivial little thing, but a nice thing to be left with. Shared memories from football. I had a hug with a couple of family members outside Oakwell today, who earlier this week lost their wife (Dad's cousin) and mother, another avid Barnsley supporter. Strange that all three of us, almost a year apart, felt the warmth of going to the match, being among friends, maintaining some sort of routine during the darker days life brings. Football is nothing like the game my Dad enjoyed and introduced me to. I don't care much for football generally, but love Barnsley. And for more than just football. Be nice to seal promotion as a perfect memory. Hope you all have a good Easter weekend. COYR
Trust you are going to Inghams my favourite chippy just about anywhere! Just don't order the extra large fish like I mistakenly did the first time I went. It was ridiculous ....hanging over the edge of the table never mind the plate
Lovely sentiments there Metatarsal. I lost my dear Dad when I was only twenty two years of age and initially struggled to come to terms with it. In time, I found that thinking of the good times we had enjoyed as a family helped me to overcome the sadness. Hope you have a great family time in Filey. I'm on holiday there at the Bay holiday complex in May and am really looking forward to it.
Ha! Yes, it's a great chippy. Only made the mistake of ordering the extra large once. It had two postcodes.
