After losing at Bristol everyone turned on the team. Yet after a win last night against a league 2 side nobody has said anything. I don't get how people don't think the side we have got will gel and become a young entertaining team. We will more than handle ourselves this year just like last year
I don't think you can extrapolate much from opposition 2 leagues below especially when they score 3 times against you.
I hope you're right about us handling ourselves. I was deeply frustrated but not surprised on Saturday, chuffed we won last night although not chuffed we conceded 3 to a league 2 side. If we beat Ipswich things will really start looking up.
Would you say that the following would be a successful season? 1. Team of young players, inexperienced at championship level, struggles to get to grips at first and is in the bottom three from August until the end of October. 2. Fans notice that the players are starting to develop both as individuals and as a team and achieve a shock and deserved win away at one of the high flyers, only to be brought down to earth the following week. 3. Still in the bottom three by mid-December, but scoring goals and looking good going forwards. However, still sloppy in defence and conceding late goals to lose points. 4. January - up-turn in form sees fewer goals conceded, midfield strengthened defensively and some sparkling attacking football to score several quality goals. 5. March - still flirting with the bottom three, but now just outside it, partly due to upturn in form and partly due to poor form of three/four other teams. 6. April - strong month putting breathing space between us and the bottom three. Players like Lindsay, McCarthy, Mallan, McGeehan, Ugbo, Hedges and Isgrove starting to show sound championship quality, team looking good in possession and sound all-round when without the ball. More clean sheets coming. 7. May - safely into another championship season with a young squad which has now proved itself at that level and can only get better in 2018-19. Some real stars emerging, some of whom will move on at the end of 2018-19 for big fees. Then rebuild again. Hecky totally knackered by now.
You've based all your theory on the fact Barnsley will be in the bottom 3. Who's to say they won't win Saturday. We lost away at Ipswich 1st game of season and went on a good run. I agree youngsters improve then get sold. But you can't say they wont gel sooner rather than later. Players like ugbo who are on loan are only here to develop. It's the players under contract we need to focus on. We need to add some experience to the squad to balance it out.
To be honest anyone who makes that sort of judgement after one game of a forty-six season is a bit daft. Nowt wrong with speculation and debate though.
I agree, but after last couple of seasons we should all still be positive and looking forward to every game.
Maybe some of us didn't want to get ahead of ourselves after only scraping a stoppage time win against a struggling Lg Two team. Thats fact, thats what happened and theres no other way of looking at it. But Im sure we all appreciate the win and the fact that we might get a bigger and better cup draw in the next round. Ohh and we got another late goal from Hedges, thats something worth noting.
