We've all got these havent we as fans, whether it be positive or negative for every new Tykes season.
But some clubs (meaning chairmen, managers, players, & fans) really do put pressure on themselves with high expectations before the season has even started.
One of the Derby players recently made it clear that 'at least the play offs' is what they are looking for this season, and Im sure we're sick of hearing about teams like Aston Villa, Norwich, Leeds, Sunderland, & Sheff Wensday etc all the time.
Compare us with Aston Villa last season, they finished a few places above us in mid-table and looked at it as a disastrous season, whereas we looked at it as a good season at least where we comfortably avoided a relegation scrap.
I think part of the battle is won immediately when people dont put unnecessary pressure on themselves by expecting too much, but these former Premship teams will never learn and will always have this ignorant attitude when coming down to this division.

Lots of quality in the league but the upshot is some Are left disappointed because when you spend a certain amount you need to achieve a certain amount

Must say for all my naysaying I'm very excited to see the new team in action

I'm the eternal rose coloured specs wearing, happy clapping optimist, mate, whenever a new season comes round. That doesn't mean I always believe we'll win promotion, but even when we were in the Premier League I've never gone into a new season thinking we'd be relegated. :D
    This season is no different.

Well I think if we don't finish 1st or 2nd we should all boycott next season. The amount we have spent and the big name players we have brought in means that's the least we should expect. Maybe 2 cup finals also.

Sunderland, Middlesborough, Leeds, Villa, Norwich, Ipswich, QPR, Birmingham, Wednesday, Sheffield United, Derby, Wolves and Fulham all believe that their rightful place is in the Premier League. Even Preston and Reading think they should be there as well as 3rd Division Blackburn Rovers. Most fans in this division are totally deluded.

This is interesting and raises another question. The nearer teams such as Wigan, villa etc get to losing their parachute payments, the more desperate they become with their financial gambling with the clubs future.
How many clubs do you think will be relegated due to administration in the next 10 years. I predict none this season or next but then at least 1 a year from then on.

I think it's going to be a real challenge this year. I'd be happy to survive knowing we have a raft of players on three year deals who might be able to give it a real go the following season.
Despite what some may think I don't want us to tread water but I don't see a better option than doing what we're doing at the moment.
It would be nice to get top ten but given the number of players we have to get hitting the ground running I'd just settle for survival.

Although of course any player that looks the business is likely to be snapped up next summer anyway, just the way it is.

Yes exactly, if we dont win the Champions League and the Checkatrade peepot Trophything this season then Hecky is a total disgrace.
(and we're not even in those competitons are we!!) :D

I agree that if a team are used to being in the Prem or if they have spent a massive amount on players then fair enough, they should be 'hoping' to go back up even if it does come across as ignorant. But when they are expecting and even demanding it, then dont you love to see them fail because of that arrogant attitude.

I bet all Burton fans last season were delighted because all they wanted and expected was to just stay up, which they did of course and well done to them & Cloughie Jnr.

If we finish fourth from bottom this season we will have had a good season.

    Mid table - excellent

    Top six - outstanding

There is so much money in this league these days it is a totally proposition to what is was 10 years ago.

    Can't wait

I think this is our most important season for a decade. If the strategy we've adopted is the right one then this is the season we move away from all our assetts being in the last year of their contracts and keep a decent spine of the team together, or secure megabucks in the transfer market.

    Huge season. I'm excited.

I don't find selling players for mega bucks exciting, I find it draining, especially at the levels we've sold them at

I think it could be the opposite to last season, in that we could start slowly and get better and stronger as the season progresses. All in all a top 10 finish would represent a great season. If we don't get relegated and I see as many good games as I saw last season, I'll be pretty happy.
