Interesting discussion, this. However, In my opinion, scabbing is the lowest of the low. End of. You just don't do it. A scab is useful as it serves to protect a wound, but the wound you're protecting isn't your own.
RE: Every Need! It's one thing to have sympathy and to have supported the strike. But chanting 25 years later by people who weren't invoved to other people who weren't involved is a different matter. I don't think anyone is saying they didn't have sympathy for the strike, or factors to do with the strike, they are talking about the relevence at a football match 25 years later.
RE: Every Need! Honestly can't see the difference to anyone in earshot between hearing 'dee-dar' and 'scab' shouted. People who object are not being honest about their reasons for objecting. Clearly offends their political views rather than anything else.
We had some half wit sat in front of me that spent most of the match chanting 'scab' to the Forest fans above. He then went on to shout sumat about 'and your mothers a scab', when he's m8 looked at him and said, 'What?' His answer was 'well the wives drove them over the picket lines'. (doh) The only chant that spang to my mind was 'If your Proud to come from Barnsley' (NOT)
RE: The Coppers Near Me Did Nothing About The Racism Might have been, I was sat in seat 94 I think. Row Q.
RE: The Coppers Near Me Did Nothing About The Racism I was sat end of that row in 80 something. Has a pigs helmet in the way all game.
About seat 85 or so. Missed the first five minutes of the second half, due to catering being slow and *****.
Did my head in Two morons in front of me who were more obsessed with 'scabs' than football started singing 'stand up if you hate the scabs' to which I thought 'I hate folk who keep standing up all game singing ridiculous stupid crap'. I'll happily stand up all day for Iain Hume, though the novelty and meaning of it wears off a bit if you sing it too much, but people who sing utter ***** as above should **** off.
RE: Did my head in Run off a few thousand leaflets for the next game and let us all know what will and will not offend your ears. I'm sure people will oblige. You're like the old woman further along our row who has a stez when anti-Sheffield songs are sung when we're not playing them. People will sing what they want. Always have, always will. Like it or not, football is a place to let off steam. As long as it isn't racist or too profane what's the problem. Most weeks we're grumbling about there being no atmosphere at all. I hazard a guess that if the same people were shouting 'Dee Dar, Dee Dar' all the game you wouldn't say a dickie bird. Correction: that's a definite because they have and you haven't. You're watching the wrong sport if you expect otherwise.
RE: Did my head in Don't be so ridiculous. They're morons, simple as that. I wasn't offended, I just thought they were ***** and so did the people I was sat with. We sang every Barnsley song and got right behind the team so don't start about the 'people moan that no-one sings' line. What is the point of chanting 'scab, scab' all game, it does nothing for the team and quite frankly I don't see why I should have my view blocked by bellends singing such utter drivel. Or should I say shouting. I assume you were standing up then because you hate 'the scabs'? (zzz) (shakrhead)
RE: Did my head in I'll expect you to say the same the next time we play one of the Sheffield clubs then.
getting boring now choose what your thoughts are........ there will always be this type of feeling between yorkshire and nottinghamshire following the miners strike. agree or disagree but it will always happen when the two clubs meet when the return fixture occurs the chant will return and again pages will be filled on this board with exactly the same comments
