We are patently lacking around the box and short of goals. For a start I would give up on Chaplin and Thomas . Bring Morris and Sibbick in and if poss a couple of new players , Hourihane? and a big ask but another striker.
Next match: Rest Walton, play Collins Rest Chaplin, start Morris Rest Kane, start with Palmer Rest Anderson, start with Kitching
I think Collins will get his chance against Norwich, if he does well there he’ll be pushing for a start against Cardiff. Same probably applies for Sibbick and Kitching (if fit). Morris and Palmer need to start on Tuesday though. Hopefully playing with Morris and Victor will mean Woodrow can spend less time fighting for long balls, and play off them. Dare i say, almost in the role Struber played him in...
I think Morris has a good chance of starting but I dont think we need a major shake up We have narrowly lost our last 2 games to the top 2 in the table hardly cause for panic. I think there is a good chance we will lose to Watford on Tuesday as well. It just happens that we have really tough games in January
Hourihane is a good shout for a loan move if he's not getting much game time at Villa. However, even if he hasn't had a pay rise since he left us, I'm sure when he first went to Villa he was on £28k per week. I don't know how much of that we would be prepared to pay.
I agree we struggle up front but that doesn't mean we need to give up on anyone. Most players are so young they cannot be written off as they are still developing. Look at Victor. By all means make selection changes up front and maybe send a few players out on loan. But I don't think we can give up on players.
This ^^^ we need the younger players like Kane, Palmer, Odeyejo to get as much game time as poss. But for me its a tweak not a revolution we need. Chaplin make way for a run of games from Morris. Then see how we go when Kitching it fit later.
Once again I find myself agreeing with you. I'm happy with us being flat track bullies for the time being.
Maybe not a big squad, but unbalanced. We have more young forwards than we realistically can develop into first team players. It would be best for all parties if two or three move on, and we invest more time in the ones we keep. The likes of Schmidt and Miller are probably taking a first team salary (which means it will be difficult to sell them), who are in the way of the likes of Marsh and Bramall at the moment.
I think it's our reluctance not to let Bramall, Marsh, Miller, Schmidt replace Chaplin and Adeboyejo that's holding us back too. I accept that they need moving on but I think if players aren't breaking any pots they should be rotated accordingly.
I think Adeboyejo is worth persevering with. If experience can bring some more composure with him, and his first touch is improving, he can become a very valuable player. Particularly in this system. Not seen anything of Marsh and Brammall to comment on their game specifically, but Miller and Schmidt's careers are stalling the longer they stay here.
I'd definitely rotate them barring Woodrow. I don't think it will do their careers any good sat on the bench when it's not necessarily their fault. If I were them I'd be miffed that Chaplin is allowed to constantly fail.
