How do we fit in Mowatt, James, Palmer and Kane?

When fit, these 4 are our best midfield. But none of them are comfortable playing wide.

Do we play a diamond with James at the base and Kane behind the front 2? This would mean that Oduor and Brittain would be required to provide the width, and could leave us exposed with just 2 centre backs.

Do we play a 5 man midfield? With James and Palmer as a double pivot, with Mowatt, Kane and Frieser behind Woodrow? But this could leave Woodrow isolated on his own - and again there's not much width.

Our squad is a little unbalanced, but we absolutely have to get the best out of our best players.

    Good luck Valerian!

Forgot about him with the recent injury (or so it seems). Another central midfielder though!

    Our best four?
Callum Styles would deffo fit in my best midfield, but still it is a conundrum for the new guy when they’re all fit.
Given the speed the matches are coming around we will need them all

Don't forget Styles as well. We have strength in depth and with games coming thick and fast we're going to need them all. We can see how easy it is to get injuries so we will need all players fit and healthy (mentally as well as physically) to get us through

Matty won't be playing full games at the moment though.

I haven’t been overly impressed with Kane so far. He misses out for me. Seriously needs to up his game with the quality he’s up against. Appreciate it’s early days though.

With Styles out James, Mowatt and Palmer for me.

We’re so lucky to have a player of Matty James quality. Was a joy to see him again today so he starts every time for me. Palmer has been outstanding, looks so composed and confident. I also think he’s got that bit of grit about him too. Isn’t scared of getting his kit dirty. Exited about the midfield again and wouldn’t grumble with any of them starting.

4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 get the pieces to fit the jigsaw

Kane doesnt look upto speed (match fit) but hes a player ans will be a massive asset.
Whatever we do with our midfield and formation...matty james starts and just let him do what he does...PLAYER!!

I think that's what I would do. But I'm conscious of isolating our forward though with that.

I don’t disagree. I know the quality he possesses. Just seems way behind what we already have at the moment. I’m being very harsh I know, but some of the little passes he gave away today frustrated me.

As opposed to James, hardly kicked a ball in 2 years and you could argue his ball over the top put us in a position for Mowatt to do what he did. It’s harsh comparing because Matty James is comfortably one of the best players at this level.

Difficult to even talk about this when the new Head Coach will have his own ideas and formations.

Palmer has been brilliant, but he’s so raw that it isn’t bad if he doesn’t make the first name on the team sheet. Development takes time.

If we decided to play a diamond what’s wrong with James holding, Styles left, Kane right, and Mowatt in the ten? Styles and Nowatt could swap as well. Leaves Palmer our but he’s developing

The quality of our midfielders will create a few conundrums for Valerien Ismael, which is a good thing.

I want to see Miller up front because I aint seen him play yet and have seen some poor, unconfident strikers up top since lockdarn.

I know it waint happen but £200,000 was it up the shitter.

Given the midfield options we have, it would make sense to play an extra midfielder for one of the centre halves, but I’m not sure we have the full backs to play in a back 4.
