The game at home to Bristol Rovers finished 0-0 with an attendance of 5,579. Big contrast to the earlier one v Bristol City, which finished 4-7 with Lol Chappell getting all four Reds' goals yet finishing on the losing side.

Yes there were letter boards A-Z near the corner flag kop end/west stand and scores would be posted at half time. The only way to know what match corresponded with each letter was to look in the programme.

Clever bit of marketing really although programme sales would have been relatively low especially with sub-5,000 gates in the early to mid-sixties. I used to sell them for a time in exchange for free entry to the match.

The old A-Z board had a first and second display and it was really confusing to try to work out which set of scores were which. It had consequences for the Mansfield Town fans at the end of the last match of the season. They had to beat us and hope that Bristol City didn't win in order to get promoted to the old second division. They won 3-2 and the scoreboard seemed to show that Bristol City had lost, so the Stags fans invaded the pitch as if they were promoted ..... only to find that the proper set of results showed that Bristol City had, in fact, won and they weren't promoted at all. Bit pathetic, really.
