Heckingbottom says they were 'delighted' Spurs put out a strong side. Praised his CB's and feels they will keep getting better #barnsleyfc
I thought McDonald and Lindsey did very well tonight under a lot of pressure. Spurs had a lot of possession - I can't believe the BBC 56/44split. I thought it was more like 80/20, with them having 25 shots. But everyone worked hard, although I would have liked us to keep possession for much longer periods. It might have been different if Ugbo had scored in the 49th minute. He shot hard from an angle but straight at the keeper.
Back from the match. Everyone put in a big shift tonight. Thought Vertonghen for them was different class . Just watched the highlights , no replay of the Ugbo chance in the 46th min strangely. That one goes in its a different game. Lindsays headed chance in the first half was a guilt edged one also, should have done better. Apart from the Llorente chance when he lost his marker but headed over no great clear cut chances , Davies didn't have that much to do in the first half. Our best spell was just after half time when we retained possession much better and Ugbo had his chance, but as mentioned they seemed to have a lot of the ball in front of our back line and continually stretched us throughout most of the match. We didn't have enough quality on the ball against class players to do much overall, which is understandable given the money Spurs have. Bird and Williams had to work their socks off to cope in the middle with their quick movement. Hammill did well when he came on.
Presuming Yiadom had left by now, I'd say our back 4 last night is the one we'd have hoped to start the season with. So the more we can play them, the better they should get.
Zeki Fryers ended the match as a virtual spectator after being injured, just stood on the half way line on the wing. We had Hedges playing left back for the last few mins.
It was his first competitive game in probably a year at least so that's understandable. Sounds like he had a good game though and will only get fitter.
I was very impressed with him in the first half. Once he's fully fit that left back berth will be his to lose.
