Huge decision, hopefully it will allow more businesses to survive by perhaps opening in a reduced form with lower staff levels.
Contributions by employers from the end of July, but those details will follow at the end of May. Not sure how that will work for those businesses with zero income but it's a very welcomed announcement
Obviously a welcomed announcement, however I really do hope people are bracing themselves for the aftermath of all this.
Gordon Brown finished paying off the National debt for WW2 in 2006 I read somewhere. Perhaps the Right Honourable minister for the 1800's, Rees-Mogg will be in his element soon. A lot of financial pain; moths in our wallets and empty pockets, in the years to come, I fear.
Good move! This will ease a lot of the worry people are feeling - especially those in hospitality industry who may be some of the last to return to work. Part time furlough also will help with bringing people back in shifts ...... think there would be massive outcomes whatever he would have done.
It means firms are less likely to get people back into work earlier than necessary and takes strain off public transport.
I agree. Laura needs a medal. I realised how hard it is trying to do household chores and look after a seven month old baby is. I was ill for three weeks but the rest of the time in isolation there was never a spare moment which you do get at work.
I was told the other day that in the US those 20 million unemployed are getting their full salary + $600/week for 3 months, then $900/week after that on average (they’ve added $600/week onto unemployment payments) So I know we’re going to have a lot of national debt, but nowhere near the US.
Maybe a little, firms are still going to be losing money so they will want to open up if and when they can. More importantly it means they are less likely to lay staff off if the either can't open or can but aren't as busy. As @LiverpoolRed rightly says we are looking at a lot of suffering whatever approach. Redundancies are inevitable, this hopefully will a- reduce them and b-delay and stagger them. Which is better economically than a all out crash right now.
You were told wrong mate. I'm at work and can't link you to an article at the moment but that is miles off the truth.
