I'm feeling the utter futility of watching Barnsley FC and I saw my first match over 60 years ago, it doesn't matter how good a side we put together we will be pillaged by the transfer window system.. We are supposed to compete with the Sheffield clubs not to feed them I understand the lads going for more money, but I'll never understand them going there. My sympathy this morning is with Hecky and his team and I hope they are feeling more positive today than I am.

    on the plus side

at least we aren't at the bottom of the food chain, because whenever we lose somebody we will be plundering another sides good prospects and they will feel exactly the same

in the past when people have spoke about building for the future many of us have scoffed at the idea, now those who thought otherwise may see the real picture.

The realisation is that the future being built for is off the field not on it

If they were Tarn lads I'd agree and not be able to understand them going there. But Tarn lads they are not. Ones from Wolverhampton and ones from Cork.

The question that keeps coming is: Of all the teams in the world why them?
This is going to create turmoil in the club and they have used their money to undermine the club. I'm angry that our board have let them do it to us.
I f****** hate Wednesday and we are feeding them.

So how is our situation different to clubs in the lower leagues where we have taken their best players, such Hourianne, Scowen, Winnall etc?

The only difference I can see is that we have lost out to a (I wont say bigger) club around the corner. Surely all clubs in our league are our rivals, local clubs is just geography. Yes of course we have a great desire to win against 'local' clubs, but I want us to win every time we play.

The system for survival that we are taking is still in its infancy, lets see how we fare after a couple of rounds of building, taking knocks and then rebuilding. I'll support our club whatever.

Aye, supporting Barnsley is like falling in love with an attractive woman who doesn't really care too much about you.
You shell out lots of your money on her and your time thinking about her - she occasionally sets your heart alight but is equally likely to disappoint and if a bloke with more money than you comes along to buy her nicer things she will bugger off. But you can't get her out of your head and you keep coming back for more. What a mug.

I mean that transfer income is not there to subsiddise increased wages not at least to the degree of the level required to recruit/retain the likes of SW or CH. Instead, it is there to ensure that the club has cash reserves to call upon when we need them to cover losses caused by releagtion back to L1 etc as we have an aim to be self sufficient and the main source of income to do this is to flog players on for "reasonable" profits.

A Leeds fan just asked me if our long term strategy is to become Wednesday's feeder club.

It was a serious question on his part, and he has a point.

We scout them, develop them, then feed them on to the pigs in cut price deals.

We've only sold one player to them. In fact, that isn't even confirmed yet...

You're a reasonable bloke, and you know Winnall has signed for them as much as anyone else does.

    Regarding Hourihane, we'll see.

And anyway, I'm communicating the current perception of our club based on recent events.

It doesn't matter if it's Wednesday, Brentford or Norwich they are ALL currently rivals at this specific time. It's simple. We should not let them have our best players in the January of what could have been a play off push. The lads could have done as they pleased in a few months but this IMO is scuppering any chances we have, boosting another club and leaving a bitter taste in the mouth. The club should have explained in clear terms that the interests of BFC are paramount and told agents impatient for their wad to wait.

Which is fair enough if we're happy to flip flop between championship and league 1 . So in a nutshell Barnsleys modus operandi is to buy from the lower leagues turn players into championship/premiership quality player then flog them for a 'reasonable profit', (which is fair enough if we get the right price) or in this case give them away . Mid table championship is all we can hope for ever . I bet Heckys dead chuffed !
