Have to say, I can't fault Danny Wilsons views on our future recruitment policy once the season
finally gets back underway ( if it does of course.) I believe that few supporters would disagree on
his statement of the need to strike the right balance between youth and experience. To me, it's the
only way we can ever hope to finally consolidate our position in the Championship.

Top bloke is Danny but his recruitment legacy for us is shocking.
His loan signings in particular I’m talking about.

Immortalised in the history of Barnsley Fooball Club because of season 1997/98.
Whatever his shortcomings or managerial imperfections thereafter, no one can
ever take that accolade away from him.

Truly great time to support the Club. Only wish for our die hard fans sakes we could
manage to do it again eventually.

Not to prolong the agony - but did you hear what Hecky had to say about recruitment ?

As Hecky said - the recruitment setup at Barnsley used to be so good and fine tuned - incidentally because there was little money about during the Patrick era - that they were cherry picking many talented players before they had even come onto the radar of other clubs.

What has happened in the last few years at Barnsley is that the current owners have seen an opportunity to invest in a club that has a great recruitment strategy - they have then got hold of the club and immediately thrown that recruitment strategy out of the window.

I understand the policy of developing our own young players - this policy has to continue.
But it should not form the only string on the bow.

What I would like to see is that the policy of signing and developing ‘some’ young talented players continue - but this is in conjunction with adopting the Cryne strategy with the added bonus that when talented loan players become available there is the money available to secure that player at the club.

Can you imagine the Cryne recruitment strategy coupled with the ability (money) to secure some of the talented loan players that have gone through the club over the last 15 years or so.
    Wow !!!
What a team Barnsley would have had.

The only problem with that theory is when PC & PH were doing it they had a much bigger pool to pick from that could be gotten for lesser amounts because very few clubs were doing it.
Now most clubs are operating on a similar strategy and have more money and have priced us out of that same pool and which is why I believe they have gone into Europe for their recruits.

Id disagree. He seemed to do ok when he recruited players in 1995 through to 1998.

I thought Danny Wilson was great at spotting a player but didn’t know what to do with them when he got them the second time around as the game had moved on without him.
Absolute legend or villain for jumping ship like a rat the first time?
Legend for me although it was like watching an aging boxer get pummelled by someone he would have previously beaten in his sleep the 2nd time he was with us.

    Got to agree.
However I only wished Hecky could be held in such a high degree.
He only did what Danny did albeit a different rival team.

Every man and his dog knew before the season began that we needed a couple of old heads in the team - everyone apart from the club. Only when they part fixed that did we pick up results. You cant expect a youth team to compete in experienced mens football.
