Bigger con men are the players. We've tried every different type of manager going - foreigners who have won titles all over Europe with the biggest clubs, former England internationals, English managers... Millions of pounds go into the academies all over the country and kids are nurtured through it all. In contrast in the favelas in Rio there's kids barefoot kicking a ball around made of string and wearing a "Jo's Hen Do Magalluf '94" t shirt and becoming ten times the players this lot are.
Don't get me wrong they are ***** too... but he's such a dull choice. Reminds me of Johnson quite a lot. Sent from my iPad using Barnsley FC BBS Fans Forum
I think we have some decent players, just bad coaching. When Mourinho takes the England job we'll be much better.
It's the suits. Gareth doesn't wear lucky leather gloves though. Maybe he's missing a trick? Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Said for ages, foreign players help our lads look good in the premier league. Take them away and you get a team that swaggers about beating poor teams in qualifiers, but struggling against better teams. We're like strangers at times. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
The reason for our poor form internationally is quite straightforward in my opinion. These players are on 100's of thousands of pounds a week playing for their respective clubs. Why would they jeopardise that income through getting a potentially career-ending injury playing for free for England. Couple with that the massively over the top media scrutiny and expectation, I just think they cannot be arsed. Im pretty sure that all of them players last night would have rather have been on a plane to Marbella or Ibiza for a week or two. And thats the truth of it. People can talk about the pride in wearing the shirt, three lions etc etc. All thats gone. Corrupted by the money they earn.
Money has fecked everything mate. Without wealth there wouldn't be poverty. Sent from my SM-G850F using Tapatalk
Couldn't the same be said for Frencg, German, Spanish, Italian etc players. The fact is the majority of our national team are ***** but the manager is not even League One standard.
Perhaps in terms of finance, yes. But the media hype that surrounds the national side in this country is way over the top. Your rebuttal also stems from finance inversely as its much easier for premier league teams to buy "the finished article" from europe or elsewhere as opposed to nurturing our young talent. Thats because they have the financial resources to do this. A case in point, look at the U 20's squad that has just won the world cup, how many of those players do you think will play 20+ games this year in the premier league? One or two? Maybe not even that. If these lads were given games at the top level, they would be top level players when they get to 24/25. As it is, they get farmed out where at least 75% of them never play for their parent clubs again. The system is a joke.
I don't disagree with any of this. I was just meaning that the foreign players who play in England are also on hundreds of thousands per week and have the same reasons for not giving their all for the national team.
I agree with you conan. I went on to talk about the money ruining our youth system, therefore impacting on the quality of the senior side (theyre ****) we agree there. My point was that they are **** because there is no time given to young english players in premier league squads at an early age.
Biggest problem for me is that the best young players are shielded from competitive tournaments because of club power - so U21 tournament this summer, Rashford won't be playing on the say-so of Mourinho. Then he'll get thrown into a world cup game and fail. Meanwhile most of the German team have all played in their U21 equivalent. As long as the Premier League are allowed to run English football we will never win another tournament.
You should try living in Germany, the media and the public expect Germany to win every single game, every single competition they compete in.
