Bringing out the best in Hammill too. What I like about Hammill out the right is he has to use his teammates more. He hasn't got the temptation to try cut inside every time. Ive seen a lot more maturity to his game in these first matches and he looks a better player for it. He's a lot fitter too which helps.
What people don't realise when they're slagging Potts off is that he was a big part of why when we went forward forest **** themselves. He might not be as fancy as hammill or be anywhere near the finished article but hammill, Potts and hedges swarming forward to join Bradshaw and outnumber them put them on the back foot all through that first half. It's ok saying somebody was strolling about but if you watched him he certainly wasn't he was getting up and getting back. What people really mean is that his tackling wasn't up to much. A very different complaint
To be fair I'm all for starting Potts again but at times he was strolling and switching off from his defensive duties. He doesn't get back quick enough. These are the things he needs to learn though and I've every belief he will. His height is also very useful on goal kicks and he's giving us a strong presence up top. One thing I cant believe is that he has played most of his career out wide. He's certainly no winger.
I think he's a winger more in the Watkins sense than the hammill sense. Big and strong and can carry the ball with power rather than tricky and fast. That is just a guess though I've really no idea
I hope you are right about Potts I really do. It's not in my nature to criticise our players but I said at halftime that he's either unfit or lazy. Early days I guess...
Bird looked decent when he came on in midfield , got to give Potts time to settle in and learn Heckys way I suppose , but not impressed so far
