If they are good at both they won’t be playing for us.

I can’t remember any goalkeeper other than Heinz who ticked both boxes in the last 40 odd years I’ve been watching us.

Theirs was rooted to his line when Cavare scored so Davies isn’t the only one who makes basic errors.

They all do, and then they make a brilliant save. It’s how it is, at all levels.

Davies hasn't been good at either this season. Needs dropping.

Agreed, but can't head into a relegation battle with a keeper having a crisis of confidence. Not saying he can't get back to his best eventually, but like any other player, if they aren't performing then they need to be dropped.

Definitely but we have no one to take his shirt. Confidence is massive for a keeper

Keepers that have both qualities are already in the Premier League

Muller commanded his area and Steele was an excellent shot stopper.
If these two chaps want to forward me a sperm sample, I'll happily inseminate Mrs Broddle's Perm with my beef baster, and present you with the all round keeper in around 19 years time.
Mind... What if she gives birth to a German speaking girl...?
Need to give this more thought...

May I add distribution is appalling, although it's nothing new. He doesn't have a natural football brain, when he collects the ball and we have a quick break on, he'll think about it for a few seconds then release it by which point it's too late. He also comes for a lot of things he shouldn't do and doesn't come for a lot he should. His shotstopping is what covered over these cracks but now that's gone he isn't offering much.

Bang on. Not a natural footballer at all. Doesn’t know how to see/utilise the space opening up in front of him to set us on attacks.

When he first came to the club he literally couldn’t kick the ball if it came to him in open play. That’s improved but it’s flatlined now.

He’s been found out at Championship level and it’s nothing to do with our defence like those who are looking for excuses claim.

    World Class keeper -

    Shot Stopping - Word Class
    Command of area - WC/excellent
    Decision making - WC/ excellent
    Distribution - WC/excellent
    Mistake prone - Minimal

Example - De Gea, Courtois, Lloris, Ederson

    Prem keeper-

    Shot stopping - WC/excellent
Command of area - Very good
    Distribution - good/very good
    Decision making - excellent
    Mistake prone - 1-2 a season

    Example - Schmeichel, Adrian, Pickford

    Championship Keeper

    Shot stopping - Excellent
    Command of area - Okay/Good
    Distribution - Okay/Good
    Decision making - Good
Mistake prone - 5 per season max.

    Example - Ruddy, Westwood, Bialkowski

    League One
    Shot stopping - Very good/Excellent
    Command of area - Poor/Okay
    Distribution - Poor/Okay
    Decision making - Okay
    Mistake Prone - 5-10 a season.

Granted some keepers will excel in a couple of areas whilst been weak in other but on average that’s the profile you’re looking at.

    An ON FORM Adam Davies-

    Shot stopping - Excellent
    Command of area - Poor
    Distribution - Poor
    Decision making - Okay
    Mistake prone - 5+ a season

    Current Adam Davies -

    Shot stopping - Okay/Good
Command of area - Very Poor
    Distribution - Very Poor
    Decision making - Poor
    Mistake prone - 10+ season

For people to say we can’t do any better is absolutely crazy. On form he is a League One keeper who has not improved during his time in the Championship. Only got worse.

I like Davies, but over this season I am finding it hard to defend him, he's a decent shot stopper but commanding his area he is poor and his distribution from goal kicks and throws isn't good. If he can improve those we'd be able to get by.

I think he does need dropping just so he gets his head together. I think he knows more than anyone he's not been at his best, and the pressure of captaincy is getting to him too. However, in his defence we have made silly errors with marking players, take Hourihane hitting the post yesterday was unmarked, and we don't seem to get tight to players enough in my opinion.

Made more saves in the Championship than any keeper last season with a settled back 4. Is that not correct? Already closing in on our all time clean sheet record.

It’s almost like you want to ignore positive qualities to concentrate on negative ones but haters gotta hate.

He is still my favourite keeper but I think Watson was ‘better’.

You said you were ignoring me?

You’re obsessed with try to prove a point. I’m talking about the here and now because I want us to stay up this season. He’s one of our most experienced players yet he’s crumbling in front of our eyes. We need better.
