Not wanting to sidetrack the other thread. Re club reported. How many on here think it's respectful to sing the national anthem. I can see both sides.
    Yes . Cos she's a great ambassador.
    No . Cos she's privelaged.
I personally would prefer to have an anthem that represents the people of this country. And am totally against anyone being instructed to sing GSTQ. Eg England's men and women's footballers. Would much prefer one that doesn't make people appear hypocrites.
The Yorkshire haka. Would represent us to a t. Sod rest ot country. :)

Tbh I sing it purely because it’s the national anthem not because the words mean anything .
But to be fair they should be words everyone in the country can get Behind and mean what they’re saying .
It must be the only anthem where it divides the country .
I’d change it not because I disagree with the sentiment although I do ,but to unite the country rather than what we have now .

I'd prefer if the national anthem was Jerusalem or Land of Hope and Glory but regardless I still love the one we have and proudly sing the national anthem.

Every country has the same argument. Most Italians hate their national anthem. I quite like ours, not because I'm a monarchist, but the tune is rousing, it builds to a crescendo, and most importantly, it's bloody short.

I don’t like the words of the national anthem. I don’t like the nationalist and right wing connotations. BUT - as a liberal and a centre lefty - I still think it’s ok to be patriotic and proud to be English, having followed England home and away for several years.

I belt the anthem out when I watch England away. I respect the oppositions anthem. It’s not about the specifics of words or the literal interpretation of them - it’s just a statement that I am proud of where I’m from and respecting any other nations anthem is a simple symbol of courtesy and understanding that you respect theirs.

As an atheist and an anti-royalist the idea of my singing "God save the Queen" is clearly absurd but I recognise that I'm in a minority in at least one of those regards and anyway I think we're stuck with it.

I think you might be in the majority while living in Glasgow. Wouldn't be a good idea to give it a blast while having a drink in the counting house. ;)

The tune is ***** and not even unique to us. Hardly ever sung in time. One of the most boring anthems imo

I've been in a few sizable minorities lately, mate. It's not working out too well for me I'm afraid.
