This government have got a good grip on the housing crisis. I think we need more private landlords becoming employees of the state and the tax payer should be encouraged to clear off their buy to let mortgages. https://www.theguardian.com/society...ost-three-times-as-fast-as-new-ones-are-built
It was only anecdotal, but on the Last Leg last week, Adam Hills quoted Nick Clegg as saying that he asked Cameron and Osbourne about building more social housing and they were not interested as it just created Labour voters...
The Conservative attitude to social housing is pretty openly hostile because they think that it is a breeding ground for people who disagree with them. It's part of what needs to change in this country.
Rather than the usual tory bashing how about things are looked into below skin deep? Im not clued up on right to buy or indeed buying from the council however as a the freeholder you have to assume the council has final say. Especially if it like for like in terms of sales and replacements. Especially as one paragraph references these properties were auctioned. Was the decision to sell these made at local level or from pressure at central government level. It would also be interesting to see a breakdown of each councils ruling party, how many that council sold, what for and how much of the sales were reinvested in replacement housing or went into the pot. Especially given theres as many labour run councils on that article as Tory.
I bet they wouldn't extend right to by to all housing, including privately owned, which they should do in all fairness.
