My social media feeds and text messaging is full of thoughts on the cricket, the grand prix, and Wimbledon. It's clear a lot of families have watched these events together today, many of them wouldn't normally be interested, but the availability of the finals & grand prix to all households shouldn't be underestimated. Let's hope it has a knock on effect, especially for cricket which I think is struggling at local league level. Be great to see parks and beaches full of kids playing cricket, especially with the school holidays coming up.

No axe to grind with Sky, their coverage is excellent, but I hope those who are responsible for administration of sport take note of what today has done for the public by having it available to all. Enjoying sport for the emotion, the desolation, the nail-biting finale, the glorious ending. Nothing more, nothing less. As it should be IMHO.

Sport can do wonderful things on some days. Today was one of them.

The final stages of both the cricket and tennis were awesome. Both going one way then the other. My finger was sore flicking between both.
I'm not really a fan of GP. So didn't watch any.

No sorry Helen. It for me only got interesting going into the latter stages. Found the earlier play a bit boring. Of course not really knowing of any rules or knowing what a Yorker is did not help.

Brilliant. And there I was thinking it would be a boring, lazy Sunday. Cricket will have won a lot of fans today, which it wouldn't have done on Sky.

It was the same with the women's world Cup. I'd never watched women's football until this year, and I can honestly say I'm looking forward to the women's euros and the next WWC.

There's a lot to be said for free to air sports winning over a new generation of fans and raising the profile of lesser followed sports. I wouldnt mind if the government funded terrestrial channels to bid for more sports coverage. It would be good for the nation.

For these private entities who own most of our sport now , if you want to make more money make sure everyone's watching . Last cricket I watched with any interest was the ashes2005 , really enjoyed that game.... .

I remember the Sunday afternoon 40 over games on BBC2 in the 1970s, Richie Benaud and Jim Laker commentating.
It used to drive my mum barmy, a whole Sunday afternoon wasted as far as she was concerned !
I'm all for free tv coverage of sport, so much has been lost to the public since Sky appeared.

Incidentally that's the last time before today live cricket was on terrestrial TV.

At least Lewis didn't hang about. Cricket and Tennis finals could have been sorted in half hour this morning.. Leaving time for all those little jobs around the house.. :)

Yes you're right. 20 yard run up or thereabouts.
I forgot too that John Arlott also commentated.
What was the name of the BBC presenter who always introduced the cricket programmes on tv?
I can see him in my minds eye but can't put a name to him.

The first presenter I can remember was Peter West, and then Tony Lewis.
