A friend of mine who I hadn't seen all season is a Fulham Season Ticket holder. I finally caught up with him yesterday and he asked me how Woodrow was doing. He wasn't surprised when I told him we were impressed with him. He thought Fulham had made a big mistake selling him to us and was surprised he had dropped to a L1 club - he too thinks he will be very good for us in the Championship and wishes they still had him. He had known it was initially a loan and was hoping that he was coming back but thought we had bough him and wanted to confirm He doesn't expect them to bounce straight back up by the way
He looks a natural finisher to me. I've really got high hopes he can do well next season. The defenders will be much better but they can't do much if you've got a shot away with your first touch.
On the flipside, work colleague of mine, Bristol City fan, shocked to hear Woodrow is doing so well. Apparantly did nothing for City on loan and was underwhelming, which I am dubious about. If Woodrow hadn't just penned a new deal, little Lee would no doubt come sniffing.
Odd how that can happen. Remember Jay Rodriguez on loan at Barnsley and thinking the lad was a waste of space. Convinced Jon Walters would be working at Mcdonalds within a year of him being on loan at ours.
Very true sometimes players dont work at a particular club for some reason. First example I remember is we had a bang average player called David Speedie who did nothing for us in the 4th division and no one complained when he left. Imagine my surprise when a couple of year later he turned up at Chelsea and became one of their best players of the 1980's
That surprises me because I thought Speedie was a good player for us with great potential . There were a lot of rumblings from people I knew about him going and were surprised he’d gone to Darlington .
Speedie was a good player with bags of potential. His big mistake was falling out with Alan Clarke who soon shipped him out. He was brilliant in the air for such a small guy. Having said that, I never expected him to play at such a high level.
In all my time of watching Barnsley, it's a struggle for me to remember a striker scoring as many goals with first time strikes as Cauley Woodrow.
