We were gonna sign an unknown called Ronaldo or something like that but just our luck he is having a stormer in the World Cup.
Doing business quietly can only be good. If we're in for a player it guarantees two things: 1) The scouts/system that's spotted Winnall/Hourihane/Mawson/Yiadom/Roberts approves 2) They're going cheap So if we want them and can afford them, chances are others do too and they'll jump the queue. Rather hear no rumours and make better signings than be pipped to every signature then end up signing Cole Kpkekwa
The way I see it, there are three explanations. 1; we are focusing on recruitment overseas and so the lazy media in this country will not be digging into our transfer dealings as its too much work for them to find out snippets of information from the continent (we are only League 1 Baaaaaaarnsley afterall). 2; we are nowhere near signing any players. Or lastly 3; we are delving so deeply into the national pool of "talent" that these sorts of signings or approaches just aren't worth the time or effort of journalists reporting on them/ investigating them. As we all know, players' agents will always (by and large) leak information to the media regarding an approach for their client in the hopes it spurs other clubs into showing interest. The club can say they prefer to do things quietly all they like, but nothing stops the agents stirring the pot. As far as I can tell, we haven't even got the pot on the stove.
