When talking about the Chief Exec and the interference it placed on his job having to take phone calls when he should have been concentrating on training etc. He wasn't very confident that someone would be in post soon and his words were, he won't do it again, making reference to the CEO. I'm pretty sure he would know if there was someone about to come in after the season ends, so it doesn't sound good. So if you take him at his word on saying he won't do it again, does that mean someone else on the board will have to do the CEO tasks or does it mean he was thinking about walking away if nothing changes?
It was a Radio Sheffield interview. When he said 'I won't do it again' I cringed and my first thoughts were I hope Patrick doesn't hear him say that. It's not good when employees say things like this. But it's very understandable if you hear the full interview e.g. on the phone trying to sign players when he has the first team warming up before a match. Absolutely crazy. And a real indicator of why we need new owners. I was going to post about it when I heard the interview - but it's on the same topic of many of my posts so I left it.
I'm sure acting as CEO Isn't in Heckys job description, I bet he didn't even get a wage increase in January for taking on those extra duties. If by some miracle we make a good start next season, Hecky will be poached for sure! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well there simply has to be a Plan B if no CEO is likely to be appointed in the next fortnight or so. Hecky cannot and should not be the man negotiating deals, absolutely not and it is a concern that he has highlighted this issue at least twice now. To me that suggests he's either simply totally honest or is trying to send a message of urgency out. A new CEO isn't the easiest of appointments of course. For all the criticism of Mansford and downplaying of the need for a CEO at all, unless Maurice Watkins is going to be a lot more hands-on as chairman we absolutely need someone to be pushing deals through, ideally with football knowledge and contacts as well. Most clubs will already have a list of players who they want to approach, as I'm sure we have. We cannot allow ourselves to be at the back of the queue in negotiations due to a lack of leadership or indeed anyone with the necessary attributes to successfully negotiate and complete transfers.
I still think the club is stalling on a CE because there are other things happening behind the scenes. Fingers crossed.
