When i was a young lad i remember playing the "likes" of Bournemouth, Burnley and Huddersfield in the old 3rd and 4th divisions. I wonder if fans of these clubs believe they are 'above' where they should be? I doubt it.
It's interesting to compare our crowds in the 80s with now. We get around double what we did then, yet we are so uncomfortable at this level now, whereas back then we were rarely worried about relegation. Money has changed everything.
Done the exact same thing before using the historical attendances website. Just curious after a debate with a pig and a pikey, did it for all the SY clubs and included average FA cup and League progress. We faired fairly well. I then took it into the toilet and masturbated aggressively.
Best website on the internet apart from xvideos and very accurate. Someone once posted a cutting of the average attendances from a newspaper in the 80s and l spot checked a few, they were bang on.
******. I've had a really special day today which made me miss today's game which has in the end turned a sad day but I did make it to the end of your post. Life is so hard and bfc is an important but small part of it.
Its also interesting to note that, for all the calls that we need bigger gates to progress, our present gates are already at a historically high level. Not as much room for manoeuvre as we thought.
I think realistically we could aim for the gates from the 98/99 season, we had lost the bandwagon fans and had folk watching that were prepared to watch us at this level.
Hopefully we could emulate promo season whereas we didn’t have decent crowds but once promoted the ground was filled and to an extent they stayed with us for a couple of seasons
Another surprising thing for me was that the effects of the miners' strike on gates was well known, but they didn't affect our league position significantly. We continued to be a mid to upper D2 team until that famous promotion season.
Aye but gained on the back of the best 2 seasons in our history and fell away over 3 further seasons. Hardly sustainable.
