How many more goals will we concede from corners before the manager gives his players a chance ,and changes his decision to continue with this zonal marking, it leaves us in poor position to challenge the first ball and an even worse position for the second ball, with no one picking up
Must admit, I’m not a fan, particularly as we only zonally mark the six yard box and anything outside that gives them a free header.
It can be effective with players good enough but personally I prefer man to man marking and that is the system I would use.
Choose which system you employ at corners there should always be a player centrally on the 18 yarder who’s job is to close the ball down or clear it. How many times do you see the ball hit straight back in from that kind of position
Problem with Saturdays goal wasnt down to Zonal marking just poor defensive setup and a poor punch straight up the field to a guy on the edge of the box with no one near him. Our zonal marking had 7 of our men in our 6 yard box including a man on our keeper they had one guy there. we had 2 out at the side of the box stopping the short corner and one guy 1 yard in front of the box. Thats not a zonal marking as I understand it that's schoolboy packing the 6 yard box. It may be we cant cope with Zonal marking but I dont think the players were where they were supposed to be. Davies might have got a better punch away if he hadnt had one of our own men on him and the guy would have had a lot less time to shoot if we had had a guy near the penalty spot able to run out and close him down
Don’t understand why we have everyone back in the the box from EVERY corner we concede. Putting 1 upfield, or if I remember right one manager leaving 2 upfield removes several players from the oppositions attacking option and in turn can stop the ball coming straight back in. Weird.
