I'm in the process of moving house and found the play-off final programme in the bottom of my sock draw. There's some stats in it about the performance of promoted teams the following season. I can't remember the numbers off the top of my head so the ones quoted below are only rough estimates from what I recall. But 57% of teams promoted through the league 1 play offs are relegated back to league 1 the following year, which is a surprisingly high number I thought. Whereas only 20% (I think) of league winners do. 0% have won back to back play-off finals (league 1 and championship) and only Notts County have ever done it in leagues 2 and 1. The percentage of play off winning teams making the play-offs the following season was also very low in the championship (4% I believe). Just thought I'd share these as it's interesting to consider where we are now against what historically has happened with play off winning sides. One other stat I thought interesting is that the average league position for losing play off finalists the following year is 9th in the Championship, 11th in League 1, and 12th in League 2. I came across it too when Hammill pinged that 2nd one in Sent from the darkest recesses of a poisoned mind.
