Said he was going to turn David Currie into a million pound striker. The mind boggles on what he'd be worth now.

I remember the match against Port Vale that day better than most , as both my sons were the mascotts that day & proved to be unlucky mascotts ! My wife attended & has never been back since

We had a thread about this a while back. Currie in his prime under contract would surely be worth in excess of £15 million. If Marc Roberts is worth £4 million, Paul Futcher must be £20 million on today's market. I reckon De Zeeuw in his prime would have been worth similar.

Remember both matches well, brilliant stuff, near on 40,000 for both matches if memory serves me right.

40,000 against Port Vale in 1990? I was also at both matches, and I'd be surprised if the sum total of the two was much over 10,000!

The Chelsea/Stoke matches about 40,000 in totality think he means.

Ahhh yes, I'd somehow not seen that clip! What an FA Cup run that was.

Incidentally I had a dream last night that we'd re-signed David Currie for the Villa match. He hadn't changed. Same hair and tash, same skill, same unfeasibly tight shorts. We were 1-0 up and got a penalty in front of their fans. Currie stepped up to take it, which I was very glad about, as yesterday I'd been wondering who our penalty taker will be this season, and hoped it isn't Bradshaw. Currie scored, but it had to be retaken as one of the Villa fans had jumped onto the pitch and touched the ball before it crossed the line. He then stepped up again and put it miles wide. After that I got a feeling they were going to get an undeserved equaliser, but woke up before they did. It was good to see David Currie playing for us again, despite his penalty calamity. I wonder if we'll ever see anyone like him again. What a thrilling player.

i think max capacity in the standing era( '80s) was about 33,000+
    ..

I think the stoke match was a replay after we gave a 3 -0 lead away at Victoria ground.. if it's the year when They had them inflatable pink panther things.. whatever all that was about .. we had an entire side of their ground for that ..

The games against Stoke and Everton were prime example of manipulation of attendance. It was packed to the rafters in the Brewery Stand and you couldn't see any space in the other stands either.
Wasn't the 'official' capacity something like 36000? I'm not sure where the other 15000 would have gone during the stoke game!

32,551 for the Everton game. Seems about right.

It was 3-1. That donkey Bamber scored in the first half.

Regarding your point about who takes the penalties, I would think it could be Moncur or possibly Bradshaw

Ugbo if he starts. Any forward worthy of the name loves a pen.
