I wonder if Big Mick's having a wry smile at Ipswich's misfortunes

Getting beat again tonight at home to Brentford, still winless and rock bottom.

A few on here commented at the time that their supporters should've been careful what they wished for when calling for his head. He outwitted the odds year after year with a tiny budget to have them contending for the Play-Offs most of the time.

Perhaps it'll slowly dawn on their fans that in being out of the Parachute Merry-go-round they're in the same lot as 'the likes of Barnsley' these days.

Mick McCarthy is a top manager but he hasn't been replaced with an adequate replacement. Paul Hurst shouldn't be managing them.

    You reap what you sow.

Sack a more than competent manager, become less than competent.

They’ll go down I think, no real quality in the side to help them recover even this early.

I think they are in for a long season Hurst isn't a great manager the jury is still out on him one good season doesn't make you a good manager and we were after him in the summer but he went ipswich thank God. Mick McCarthy can always get the best out of players if he would of been our manager last season from start to finish we would of been comftably safe.

Because he's doing poor on one of the worst budgets in the championship, doesn't mean he'd have done as badly having one of the best budgets in league one by joining us. I think they will go down. I said at the time they will find out how good Mick was with the tools he had available. But they won't go down because of the manager, it's the board.

McCarthy made a net profit on transfers during his time at Ipswich whilst having his wage budget cut year on year following the fortune Roy Keane spent.

Despite all this he had them comfortably mid-table, made the play offs once & flirted with them a couple of other times.

What did these fans want or expect? I know it wasn’t a majority, when polls were run it tended to be between 30 & 40% that wanted him out but that’s a huge chunk of fans that couldn’t realise he was operating under difficult circumstances.

Anyway it’s their loss, I hope they go down, but then again I hope Wednesday, Bolton & Birmingham also go down for cheating financially

They managed a1-1 draw via a 73’ equaliser from Kayden Jackson. (Where have
    I heard that name before?)
I thought Mick walked away from them of his own accord?

He did but partly because the fans couldn’t stand him.

If I'm not mistaken I believe he was told his contract wouldn't be renewed at the end of the season and made common knowledge. and as you rightly say the fans gave him dogs abuse. So said **** it. The only reason he stayed as long as he did was because of the respect the players had for him.

They're over half way to our record of 30 consecutive seasons of 2nd tier football. They have to go down (or up).

Yeah I think it was something like that. The owner couldn't really give him a new contract with so much resentment from the fans, and Mick had had enough of all the **** anyway so off he went. I'd imagine he'll end up at somewhere like Birmingham or QPR when they get to Christmas and realise they're in the **** and need a safe option.

As already mentioned Mick had a tough job with finances or lack of them there. But since Hurst as come in they have a spent a good few million quid on mainly lower league players. Why not keep Mick on and give him the money, surely that would have made better sense.

I reckon Hurst wont be in that job much longer.

Regarding Mick. ( Who in my eyes is the best defensive centre half to have played fot Tarn in my 50+ yrs watching) I would love him to take over the reins one day. But I feel he would reluctantly turn it down. He once stated he has a special relationship with the club and the fans who hold him in such high esteem. He would hate the way fans would react if everything went pear shaped.

Both of them joined basket case clubs where it was always likely to go wrong. No doubt the pay offs made it worthwhile

Paul Hurst is a good manager but I think Ipswich is too big a job too soon - a bit like PH with Leeds. Its all about fans' expectation levels. Paul Hurst has a good management record wherever he's been - dont forget he managed Boston Utd and did well there and likewise at Grimsby.
On the other forum a few years ago I pinpointed Chris Wilder instead of Lee Johnson. Paul Hurst and Dave Challinor (Fylde) were on my list this time around. That said I'm far more excited by the German revolution we have going down at the minute and glad we didnt go for Paul Hurst.

I did go on the TWTD forum at the back end of last season and got some abuse about them being careful what they wished for (The topic/thread was titled that) and unfortunately we might pass them on the way up!
